Report: 'Expected launch' for SEC Network in August 2014
Quote:
According to a report in the Sports Business Journal, ESPN and the SEC are in "the final stages" of negotiations that would deliver an "expected launch" of the SEC's own channel in August 2014.
The SBJ writes that the largest remaining stumbling block remains the league's local television rights, which belong to the individual schools and have been sold to multiple different companies under the current SEC TV contract.

The only thing that bothers me about an SEC network is that we make more off our tier 2 & tier 3 media rights than most, if not all, of the other SEC schools. So we'll be giving up more than most to start the SEC network. And given the SEC stance on equal shares for each team, we'll effectively be contributing to the bank accounts of our SEC rivals (minus Texas A&M).

Financially, you may be right, but who do you expect is going to be getting most of the exposure and having the most opportunity to sell their brand on the network. We'll make our money!

As a consumer, I hope this means I'll be able to tell Time Warner to go pound sand.

That article is from last year, but Slive was interviewed the other day and said they hope to announce something soon.

An SEC network will end up costing us more on our cable/sat bill. I bet comcast and the likes will make us buy the premium sports package to subscribe.
Living in Cali, I can still watch the games against the SEC bottom feeders on the SEC affiliate, Comcast Bay Area. It will suck to lose that and have to pay more to watch blowouts.
