Why did we switch to a zone?
The whole game changed once we switched to a zone with like 5 minutes to play in the game! Once we went in it, they posted their big man for a 12 foot wide open j that he hit...then we stayed in it! Can't rebound when your in a zone, I would have played pressure d and hope they turn it over like they did quite a bit tonight. Love Billy but wonder what went through his mind tonight?

Billy said the team broke down late in the game, inferring that depth issues caused some fatigue. he said the zone "bought some time".

Fair enough but if UF was in a zone to buy time, why not back to man when Missouri came out of their time out with 1:26 left and UF was up by 1?

I will not argue your point. I agree with it. Just relaying Billy's comment.

I think we are masking some real depth issues at the 4 and 5 spot. With Will out we just don't have that many guys who can give us quality minutes at those positions. Then late in the game Prather picks up his 4th foul further compounding the problem.

Call timeouts, and stop chasing their point guard 40 feet away from the basket while playing man, most times he drove to the hole looking to dish which he did, strange it seemed like our coaching staff was in a daze, they kept getting suckered in on the high screens 40 feet away, they could have just backed up and played man inside the circle. weird, they imploded like when we played AriZona earlier in the year.

I understand. I can think of many times Donovan has changed defenses out of timeouts late in games and confused opponents. It was just curious he did not try that tongith.

We were tired. I thought when Bowers went to the bench with 4 fouls, we would bring Prather back to rest Young a bit. Both PY and Murphu played the last 8 minutes and Prather sat. I guess we were saving Prather for OT.

Hit the free throws and one or two more three's and the game was ours no matter what D we were in. That said our guys did not even try to drive the ball or play in the paint. We went cold in three's and lost the game. I was worried when we were so hot against Auburn and I was right.

That was the thing. Prather had 4 and I don't think Billy wanted him to foul out.

What the hell would you be saving Prather for?

I see the zone as a change-up on a possession or 2 but it just didn't seem effective. I was surprised we stuck with it. I coach varsity hoops and I love Billy D. I try not to question his tactics but I was surprised. Dykes called it a 1-1-3 zone. He's a blowhard so I don't know if thats what we were really running.

Prather was in for Murphy on defense at the end of the game. I think we would have been better served playing man as well.

We were running a 2-3 and the reason we switched to it is because we couldn't handle their on ball screens when they were using a double screen on the ball instead of a single screen.
