Yeah me too. He has had his struggles no doubt..and I used to think he was just a smug, dirty, recruiter until I wised up and did some research and watched him coach. He still may be a dirty recruiter but I have changed my tune on cal and his coaching ability.
Thanks. I did not know that about Jimmy V. Did he promote himself as some kind of upright guy while doing those things or was it the people after his death rewriting who he was? Perhaps the real phonies in the story are Dicky V (are they family? ) and ESPN.

True. I think Dickie V is the kind of person who wants to see the good in someone and emphasize that. I know some on GC can't stand Dickie V but I like him. He also always has good things to say about Billy D.
And neither of them could approach the phoniness of Armstrong.

I am talking about any athlete that tries to make the public believe he or she is something or someone that you know he or she really isn't. I can name a few right off the top of my head. But I am going to start with the one that takes the cake for me and that is.......Dwight Howard. Man! You want to talk about an ego maniac that tries to come across as a guy that is only concerned about winning?
The dude is sickening to me. I have heard him complain about everything from the Arena, to the fans, to his teammates and his coach. It is obvious that the only thing DH is concerned about is DH. I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead I am interested in reading some of yours. Who is the ultimate phony for some of you?
Not sure Howard is a phony, but he is clearly the biggest douche. Lamar Odom is a close second (gets traded to the DEFENDING NBA CHAMPS and quits on the team because it screwed up his reality show).
I hope Howard exaserbates those injuries and his douchieness costs him millions in FA.
Legendary coach, but makes himself out like hes the greatest person ever when u know hes a reall asshole. At least boeheim and calhoun dont pretend like they are great people.
I've met him and he (and his team) was a great guy. I was stringing for a dinky local paper out of Chapel Hill and he treated me no different than his buddy Feinstein or any of the other big shots. Kids were great too. Thoughtful, honest and informative quotes. Quite a disparity from the rest of the teams in that regional.
Made such a positive impression, I've rooted for them ever since (unless they play the Gators).
Just because a ball isn't involved doesn't mean it's not a sport. Motorsports are a team sport. Racing requires an intense amount of focus, coordination, and strategy on the part of the team and the driver(s). To be a professional racing driver, you have to be an athlete (yes, even in NASCAR). I'll put 12-hours at Sebring - and all those bumps - against 24 at LeMans anyday. The former just beats the holy crap out of the car and driver. Oh, and Allen, helps when you drive the most bulletproof car in the history of endurance racing. Yes, better than the 959 or 917 and that's saying a lot.

I was reading on a Lakers site that Howard has FIVE kids by FIVE DIFFERENT women.
