I am talking about any athlete that tries to make the public believe he or she is something or someone that you know he or she really isn't. I can name a few right off the top of my head. But I am going to start with the one that takes the cake for me and that is.......Dwight Howard. Man! You want to talk about an ego maniac that tries to come across as a guy that is only concerned about winning?

The dude is sickening to me. I have heard him complain about everything from the Arena, to the fans, to his teammates and his coach. It is obvious that the only thing DH is concerned about is DH. I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead I am interested in reading some of yours. Who is the ultimate phony for some of you?

Lane Kiffin.......He has conned nfl owners, college AD's, and media types..along with legions of fans that he was a qualoty head coach.

Chris Berman ... ok, so it isn't an athlete, but this guy thinks he is God's gift to sports broadcasting, and his schtick is old, boring and annoying ... and he makes 3 mil a year for acting like a clown. And his comb over is pathetic.

I agree that right now it has to be Kiffy. Lance was bad, but at least he was on any even playing field.

On a side note....My ex met him at a sports gala in Tampa and said he was a drunken ass. Lol. Personally, I can't stand the guy either.

True. I'm more disgusted with the relentless counter attacks and bullying he employed during this time. He sued, threatened, disparaged, libeled, etc. I don't recall her name but he basically ruined some reporter who basically exposed him years ago. There's a whole list of people he ran down all that time.

The doping was definitely part and parcel in the sport. But his vengeful character assassination was next level.

Here's one a little less inflammatory--and not exactly an athlete: Brian Billick. I don't buy his "genius" motif. He's probably a solid coach but I doubt he's sneaking into Mensa meetings.

Oh, and Ray Lewis. Pleeeeeease stay retired. SNL did a parody where he said if they win he would just ascend straight into Paradise. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

No, the post is the phoniest athlete, not athlete's girlfriend.

Howard is a good choice but I think it because he had too much adoration too soon and it has gotten to his head. Besides the obvious Lance Armstrong, I would go with either Alex Rodriguez (single award) or the Duke basketball teams of the past 5 years (team award).
