Default Nick Kasa - ?

Was Nick Kasa (Colorado) recruited as a DE or TE by Gators? I thought he originally accepted a Gator offer but declined because coaches thought he was too slow to play position.

I see this year he is a draft prospect as a TE.

Right, I knew that. What I do NOT know is "What position did the Gators' want him to play?" I remember one of the reasons he did not come to Florida was because they wanted him to play another position he did not want to play. Gators coaches thought he was too slow or something.

I think the vaguely insider-y reports at the time of his de-commitment indicated that he left both because we wanted him as a tight end and because he wanted to stay close to home (Kasa's from Colorado, as I recall). It's not like CU has so much talent on the defensive line that they couldn't take a risk on Kasa.

i recall him being recruited as a DE, with the "he could also be a good TE" line thrown around here and there (a la Ronald Powell). i don't remember there being a position disagreement between him and the coaches—he just said he felt more at home and more needed at CU.

My sister is really good friends with Nick's Mom & Dad. They worked for the same company in Tampa before Nick's dad tranfered to Colorado, so they are Florida natives. His parents desperatley wanted Nick to sign with Florida and were planning to move back to Florida if he did, however he had a girl friend from High School that was going to Colorado and he "might" have been a little intimidated at the talent level he saw on the defense line at the Gator practices he attended.

This is all third party from my sister, but I did talk to her about a month ago regarding Nick and she said his parents were thirlled with the fact he made an All-Star game roster as a Tight End and wish he had made the switch to offense sooner.
