Well, that poll doesnt concern policy per se, it concerns performance. Disapproving of his performance on guns could mean he hasnt done enough on gun control, not that they disagree with his position. Like 90% of the country supports universal background checks, but it still cant get through congress.

As President Obama prepares to update Congress and Americans about his agenda at tonight's State of the Union address, a new CBS News poll shows he receives public support for many of his policies.

Americans favor a combination of spending cuts and taxes to tackle the deficit (59 percent); stricter guns laws (53 percent); drone strikes against suspected terrorists overseas (71 percent); a path to citizenship for immigrants brought to the U.S. as children (74 percent); and development of alternative energy sources (68 percent).

Actually, it was Republicans voting in the primaries who chose Romney. But as we've said before, the other GOP contenders would have lost far worse than Romney did.

According to a Gallup poll, 42% of Americans approve of Obama's gun policies while 54% disapprove.

On taxes, 41% approve and 57% disapprove. On the economy, 39% approve and 60% disapprove. On "the situation in the Middle East between the Israelis and the Palestinians," 36% approve and 55% disapprove.

And on the federal budget deficit, 31% approve and 65% disapprove.

The only area in which Obama gains the support of a majority is on "national defense" issues, but the poll was conducted before North Korea reportedly tested a nuclear weapon on Monday as Obama seeks to diminish America's nuclear arsenal.

Do any of our friends on the Left have anything to say in response to this other than the predictable, "But...but...Republicans....."?

River, honestly, do you think when trying to debate with a Republican about a statistic -- that posting a poll from CBS would legitimize your argument in any way? That's the reason you're posting in this thread, right? To have a discussion with a Republican? the irony is that for how bad Republicans think Obama is, the public likes them even less

and don't give us the bs about "free things"...the republican party has no ground to stand on...they gave us trillions of dollars on tax cuts without spending cuts, wars, prescription drug bill, etc on the nations CC.....the majority of the debt comes from republican policies
