Katz asked a question after the Syracuse/UConn game at the presser and Boeheim responds by calling him an idiot and a disloyal person. Wow, what in the world?
Katz reported what a player told him, that he had an issue with two paragraphs on a paper he wrote that led to his eligibility problems. Boeheim and the school apparently thought that was privileged information and Katz should have just reported the generic "academic issue" even though he just said what the player had told him. And youre right OBOB, Katz responded to Boeheim that he wasnt an employee of Syracuse or something along those lines.
Probably regrets it. Im surprised this kind of stuff doesnt happen more. God knows what I would say if I was a big time coach and you stuck a mic in my face after a bad loss.
It was probably rooted back to the Bernie Fine situation but the recent eruption was apparently a result of Katz's disclosure of academic eligibility issues with Syracuse player James Southerland. Perhaps JB thought some of the information Katz got on Southerland should not have been reported or was considered to be off the record.

If you were being paid millions of dollars, I'm sure you wouldn't snap too often.
The pressure is on for media personalities like Andy being paid the big bucks. Folks work for years as interns or very lowly paid folks to work their way up the highly public ladder. It's like complaining about 9pm home games during the week...it's why we get paid the big bucks on the SEC/ESPN contract. Prices go up and so does pressure. That said, the writers of the 60's and 70's weren't competing with internet and were accomodated much more by the coaches BECAUSE they left the story on the game and not on non-game stuff on players.
I like Katz, but don't know his side of the story on this. Evidently Boeheim told him last year about a player that was off the record and Katz ran with it. Thats Jim's side of the story at least. Seems like a ballsy thing to do if you're Andy.
I don't know Katz's side of this and I dislike Boeheim, so I'm siding with Katz. I don't have to be fair.
I've always really liked Syracuse and Boeheim. It goes back to Pearl Washington and Sherman Douglas. Or maybe it's all that orange. Either way, these past couple years are making it much harder for me to root for Boeheim. He needs to retire after this season. He has become way too cranky and mean, and his sense of humor is gone.

Student educational records are privileged. The student has to give permission for them to be released to third parties.
