If it aint broke, don't fix it. SEC would have gotten two teams in the 4 team playoffs this year and last year. SEC schedules are tough enough. It should be the prerogative of each school to schedule whoever they want out of conference.

Aschoff needs to get his terminology straight. First he talks about dropping FCS schools but the rest of the article talks about "OOC" schools (which would include weak FBS schools as well) until the last sentence when he switches back to saying the SEC should follow the Big 10 and drop all FCS schools. He needs to get his point straight - is it FCS schools that bother him or is it all easy OOC games? If it's the latter it's stupid - conferences like the ACC and Big 10 have many in-conference games that are no harder than an easy OOC game.
He also talks about SEC programs "feasting" off of FCS schools but IIRC no SEC program except Alabama (I think) played more than one FCS school last year - not exactly a "feast" of FCS programs by SEC schools.

Didn't seem to hurt Bama too much either. Even with a loss, they were able to sneak back into the top 2 positions.

if other conferences exclude fcs teams, then the sec will have to follow suit. the new playoffs will include sos and the fcs teams will definitely pull down the sos. the sec will lose spots in the playoffs if they don't do what the other conferences are doing

I get it, but the fact remains that the conference schedules in the Big11, ACC etc are so weak that it doesn't matter what the SEC does in September.

As it stands, playing one FCS school doesn't affect the BCS formula, and one FCS win counts toward bowl eligibility. I'm sure the Big Ten and PAC-12 will push to get their way, but that doesn't mean they will succeed.
The ACC will surely want to keep at least one FCS in the mix. They can't win consistently against C-USA, the SunBelt or MAC.

It is easy to criticize when you are sitting at your keyboard. It is quite another when you are a coach who faces a brutal SEC schedule, with no "gimme" games against clearly overmatched conference teams, and your players need some rest during the season. This is not the NFL. These young men do have to go to class and study as well. Their lives off the practice field cannot be devoted totally to recovery.
I wish we didn't have cream puffs either, but I understand the need and rational.

I can't wait for the UF-Ga State game in a couple of years! It should be exciting--maybe they can schedule it at noon in September!

Given our strength of schedule, eight conference games, the annual game against the SOW, and the fact that no quality teams would schedule us without demanding a reciprocal game at their stadium - this conversation is moot. We've got roughly two games a season that we could consider, and they will always be scheduled as home games.

How about we schedule Iowa State and Colorado. Would that make Asschoff happy?

This story gives him cred in the media circles he is operating in. It is self serving and panders to his blood sucking bosses. He doesn't have to believe it, he just has to write it. He knows why the schedule is the way it is, he's not stupid he's just sucking up.

The big 10 is a good conference but would do anything to surpass the SEC. However, I too wish we would get rid of these pre season games. I believe that was part of the reason so many of the student body weren't showing up for those games.

Northwestern is in the Big 10.

No, a premiere game like that comes in the heart of the season-- November, when most teams are playing big time matchups we get the....panthers?

We should go back to an 11 game regular season. We won't need to schedule an fcs opponent. Our players would get an extra bye week to rest and recover. We would have one less team that uf would have to pay to come to the swamp. I can't imagine those games bring in much revenue. UF probably loses money on them.
Btw, the author graduated from uf with a degree in journalism. I think andy staples is a uf guy too.

Sellouts...maybe...but....
I saw photos of lots of empty seats at Bama, UGA and Tenn last year as well.

You are intellectually dishonest. You are a suspect poster to begin with but this post is flat out BS. I don't know exactly what your game is but it STINKS. Take a hike why don't you.
