Default Background checks

Thoughts on them here? Almost the entire country is in favor of background checks for all gun buys. The NRA used to support it, now it opposes it, as do some outspoken Republicans. Anyone want to defend that stance?

It's all about personal information and whom you entrust it to. No one trusts Obama's government.

except the 90 percent of Americans who support such background checks.
but let's be clear: You're opposed to the background checks, but only because Obama is president?

The real purpose is to register the weapon, which as I understand it, is ALSO what the push is for . . . not just the background check.

Can the leftists defend that ?

The obvious and repeatedly stated:

No previously convicted criminal bent on further criminal activity (the occasional idiot excepted) will purchase a firearm if a background check is required.

No criminal will register any firearm.

Criminals bent on possessing firearms, steal them, or get them from other criminals who have stolen them.

A number of weapons are already subject to registration under the NFA, such as supressors, machine guns, and short barrel rifles and shotguns (and all kinds of fun stuff like grenades, missiles and IEDs). I suspect there will be efforts to make some "assault weapons," whatever that is, subject to the NFA and registration.

Just get a gun trust and "rock and roll" - you can then get and own some of the "fun stuff" in a pretty flexible way.

Gotta love the media's era of the mindless soundbyte. Perhaps they oppose a bill in DC which sounds nice in the summary but is quite different in the details. This happens quite frequently when the media is too lazy to read the details of various bills on the subject yet labels all of the bills as the same.

And since River didn't post a link, Too Hot is to assume by his/her rule that what he is saying is obviously false. It can't be a true statement if it doesn't have a lnk: River 101.
