I think the poll shows that, even though Obama is a poor example of what a president needs to be and on top of that wants to expand the Federal government and its intrusion into our personal lives to unprecedented levels (not including the Civil and Second World Wars), the American public needs someone to motivate them to show up at the polls. I tried to do my job and let people know that the election was a serious matter and that we need to clean house - ALL that are a part of the mess in congress and not just Obama - but we as a collective whole just decided that it wasn't worth the effort.
The election was less about Obama and his policies versus Romney's as it was a sad and sobering commentary of where our heads are. We can't be bothered to do the things that need to be done. And in time we will reap what we sow.

A lot more people will start disliking Obama once his policies fully kick in. I am willing to bet that more than half the people who voted form him have zero idea of how they will be affected by Obama care in a financial manner.

Maybe one day his numbers will sink as low as his challengers.
Don't stop believin'!

Fred - What is it that you like about Obama? and please answer the direct question with a direct answer instead of responding by trashing the Republicans or conservatives please if you can.

He appears to be a good family man that is even tempered. I like healthcare reform, even though I don't think we got a very good bill. I like increasing the rich's taxes, though it didn't go far enough.
However, like most people, I vote more against one thing than for another. A vote for Mitt was a vote to continue this country's march towards corporate oligarchy, on steroids.
Oh and btw, I voted for Hillary in the Florida primary in '08.

You really want to think about this the next time you claim conservatives embraced all of GWB's policies.

I believe that the best statement is that people see what they want to see. Obama: good family man who is trying hard. W.: wicked ruler of the evil party. Or vice versa.

This bears repeating: Congress has a 9% approval rating and yet 94% of incumbents were reelected in 2012.
The dumbing down of Americans is paying dividends for politicians.

How did CBS' polling unit perform against say Gallup (the polling company used by the OP)
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-...ad;catDoorHero
Ohio: Prediction: 50-45 Obama
Ohio: Actual: 50-48 Obama
Florida: Prediction: 48-47 Obama
Florida: Actual: 50-49 Obama
Virginia: Prediction: 49-47 Obama
Virginia: Actual: 51-48 Obama.
So the poll was biased towards Obama by 0.67%.
How about Gallup:
So maybe you should be questioning the source of the OP not the CBS News poll.

My point was more that it seems silly to prove someone has a bad poll by using a poll that is just as untrustworthy and less-respected, if not even more so. That's an interesting graph, thanks for posting it, however, it's just one instance and overall, all that it proves is that Gallup didn't do a good job in that one instance. I will say I couldn't care less about Gallup's validity as a poll, but it seems in poor taste to write them off completely based on the results of one thing.

Okay, so how did they do in 2008?
http://www.fordham.edu/images/academ...20election.pdf
17th out of 20.
CBS only slightly outperformed them in 2008 (16th). However, in 2010 Quinnipiac, who works extensively with CBS in polling, performed better than anybody else (no indication of Gallup's results).
So CBS and their partner Quinnipiac have outperformed Gallup each election (although only by a small amount for 1 of the last 3 elections).

That's one explaination.
Another, perhaps more reasonable, explanation would be that the vast majority of people hate Congress, but the majority of them love their particular representative.

You think it's in poor taste to write off Gallup but you want to write off CBS?
Besides, the two polls are looking at different things. Gallup is a general 'approve/disapprove' question while CBS is looking at actual policies.

I think it's in poor taste to write off one bad poll with another bad poll.

But it is a far better poll, based on actual performance. Shouldn't people write off bad polls with far better polls?

I don't believe that. What I do believe, because I was here to witness it with my own eyes, was an absolute bromantical man-love that conservatives had for Dubya. Policies or not, they were almost uncomfortably head over heels for him.
Then, after his endless f ups and when his political usefulness ran out, suddenly all of those same cons were like, "I never said I liked Bush. He was too liberal!"
Revisionist history at its finest. Europa has always been at war with Oceania.
