Powell is a freak. He would likely be the best TE on our roster too.

He will have to get better at getting disengaged from the OLine. Too easily blocked IMO.

I agree...we haven't seen anything since he has been here that would lead you to believe he will be playing at Jones level.

I'm not sure Jones was even playing at Jones' level while at USC. That's not to say Powell will make the same jump.

That would be great for us. IMO Jones was the second best defensive player in football this season behind Clowney.

I agree. He lacks the explosiveness, the speed, the power that Jones and Clowney have.

I look for him to play like Forrest Whitaker in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
For those that haven't seen this classic 80's movie, it's worth a rental.

Not sure if he can be as good as JJ was this year, but I would like to see him play a full year without an injury hampering him. Clowney is in a leauge by himself not fair to compare him to powell or anyone else right now.

You just never know how'll they'll come back from an injury as serious as the one Powell suffered. Easley blew his knee out, and came back showing the same burst-for the most part-off the line of scrimmage that he did prior to that 2011 FSU game. Others, such as Lattimore and McGahee, weren't the same players after their injuries. Still good players, but not the same players.

Powell has the perfect frame and skills to do whatever he wants to on the field. But he does have to get off blocks better, he needs to come off the snap a bit more quickly, and nobody knows how/when he'll come back from his injury. From my understanding, Lawing will work with Young across the defensive line, with a bit more emphasis on the defensive ends. It'll be interesting to see how Lawing and Durkin work with Powell as he comes back.

I expect Powell to come back at full speed this season. This injury is not the death sentence that it once was. ACL tears are now part of a football players career, not the end of them.
In just watching the few practices that we had access to last year in the spring, he was easily the most impressive player on the field. It looked like he had turned the corner and was poised to have an all-star type season.

I think we will see that version of him in the fall.

Powell was the best player in the spring....so I expect big things from Ropo..i don't think thats too much to ask of him. Obviously we haven't seen much from him yet but he was the MVP of the spring wasn't he? If he was in fact the MVP of a defense as good as ours was last season says it all IMO

Let's remember that he was just getting ready to play in his 2nd year learning the position and how much he had been coming on the year before towards the end. This is the "big improvement from year 1 to year 2 year".

Alos, uga is all about press clippings, just like fsu. They featured Jones I'm a way to be recognized and always talked about. Yes, he's a player with a nose for big plays, but they also put him in a position to make them.

We are a total defense and aren't going to let a guy freelance to make Sports Center.

I talked with RP before and after each injusry, especially after the 2nd and his resolve is greater than ever.

Stud!

Go Gators!!!

A) Lattimore hasn't even come back yet, how do you know he won't be the same?

B) Even if he doesn't, his and McGahee's injury were both much worse than Powell's, both were complete dislocations with "terrible triad" implications, all 3 major ligaments (mcl, acl, pcl) completely torn. An ACL tear by itself is nowhere near as damning as it once was (see A.P.) and the procedure (mostly Jones technique) is almost to the point of ordinary, similar to Tommy John which usually results in an even stronger ligament than was started with.

C) Back to McGahee, you say he wasn't the same player, that's arguable... he did after all end up having an NFL career which more than tripled the average length of service for the position. You may be right, but the evidence is in watching, which was against NFL players (his injury occured in his last college game). In other words, maybe, maybe not.

Not trying to be argumentative, just an observation from a guy with a lot of knee experience.

Edit.... I now realize you meant after Lattimore's first ACL. Yeah, I agree with that now, but more often than not it takes a good year before confidence and strength are regained.
