Wow, the thread that will never die. That's ok though, not much going on except for the BBall team!

The Diggs' don't live too far away from me, although I don't know him or his immediate family. I do however know his Mom's brother (his uncle) who works with my wife, and asked him about this rumor last year when it was all the rage. He didn't know anything about it, fwiw, and I found that to be more credible than the unnamed sources in the article.

On the surface the rumor doesn't even make sense. Why would Meyer try to sway a recruit by saying something that would only reflect poorly on himself?

But as has been demonstrated throughout this thread, people will believe quite literally anything no matter how absurd (going undefeated is a cake walk, he never wanted to be here, he faked his health problems, he couldn't win without Tebow, he couldn't win without Mullen, etc etc) if it helps convince themselves that Meyer is evil.
Do they work at Shands or is he your wife's hairstylist or dentist?

"Multiple sources told Sporting News that Meyer—who won two national championships in six years at Florida and cemented his legacy as one of the game’s greatest coaches—told the Diggs family that he wouldn’t let his son go to Florida because of significant character issues in the locker room.

Character issues that we now know were fueled by a culture Meyer created. Character issues that gutted what was four years earlier the most powerful program in college football."

Your wife's friend/co-worker who's the brother of his mother vs. multiple sources. Hmmmmm . . . that's a toss up.

No... its one person who I know personally vs 'several sources' who remain anonymous no particular reason.

Anonymous sources on the Internet... that's what you find credible? That doesn't really surprise me.

So perhaps with your insight you could explain why Meyer would tell Diggs something that would only serve to make him (Meyer) look bad? I don't know if you're capable of admitting it, but Meyer is a pretty good recruiter. He knows what to say to get the commitments. Telling Diggs that makes no sense at all.

So my choices are multiple sources from a journalist or some guy who works with your wife who claims he's the brother of the mother of Diggs. I don't know you, your wife or the guy claiming to be the brother of the mother. I read your claims on the Internet, so they've got to be true! lol!!! Even if the guy is a relative and not just some bulls!t artist trying to impress your wife, who knows what his relationship with Diggs is. One thing is certain -- Diggs is playing for the mighty turtles.

Why would Meyer tell Diggs the Florida program was broken? I dunno, maybe to get him to not want to go there? Just a hunch.

The reason Diggs chose Maryland is the same reason many kids chose....close to home/Mom:

Quote:
his mother likes [Gamecocks Coach Steve] Spurrier. But I think she likes [Maryland Coach Randy] Edsall best of all. That might win out over all, you know."

http://www.testudotimes.com/2011/7/2...-maryland-five
Quote:
Good Counsel Coach Bob Milloy has long said he prefers his players to stay close to home for college and he said that Maryland Coach Randy Edsall had made an impression on Diggs’s mother, Stephanie.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...SR2Q_blog.html

Quote:
“I want to win championships, I want to win ball games, and where else is a better place to do it then your city?” the ground-shaking eruption said it all: The Terps had landed their most important recruit in years.“You see they’re there for you, they always support you,” Diggs said afterward, motioning to the group of still-grinning fans on the ground floor behind him. “Everybody’s got haters, but your city’s always behind you. It’s only right to give back.”

Additionally, you cite his assistants as the reason for his success. And? What great coach does it by them self? They're managers after all. Why do you think people constantly refer to coaching trees? Jesus, this is so easy to understand. What's even funnier is that he lost both his OC and DC before coming to UF. What happened? He had two more years for six in a row of improving a program and produced three of the four best seasons in UF history.

But whatever, keep up the nonsense.
Actually I am in that position and my track record speaks for itself. I stand 100% behind what I said. An 8-3 Bowling Green team was not impressive enough to make him a candidate at major schools. Same for year 2 when he went 9-3. First year at Utah he got some notice at 10-2 and a Liberty Bowl but it was the 12-0 season and BCS bowl that made him a hot commodity.

Mullen has had reasonable success at Mississippi State and thats not an easy thing to do. Meanwhile Urban coached a team laden with future NFLers to a far less productive offensive performance capped my his meltdown spanking at the SEC title game. His last season was the worst Florida season I ever witnessed and I've been a fan since 1980. His final recruiting class has for the most part been a failure. His first season at OSU was successful in terms of wins and losses but even weaker teams like Purdue and Cal pushed OSU to the limit.

If you still want to faun on him, be my guest but he couldn't carry Spurrier's jock and I think Muschamp will have a more promising future from here on out!

Well no! With bowl games removed (not really fair to count a national title game against a game vs Cinncinatti Florida generated roughly 11 points per game less and more than 9 point lower margin of victory. That's with all key players returning except Harvin!

That's crap. Driskel wasn't ready to play and Meyer pushed out Newton in favor of Brantley. Granted, Newton was asking to be expelled anyway!

I think Jeff could have played in the spread year one it fit his skill set. Cam did himself no favors this is coming from someone who actually thinks highly of Cam.

He couldn't win in the SEC without them. Whereas Spurrier was able to win with Shane, Danny and Rex, to name a few. Plus a variety of different DCs.
