With the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately fans we have here, I'm shocked the thread wasn't "Egomaniac zings the Liar." Coulda pulled forty pages easy.
It's hard to be butt-hurt when you had a better NC coach before and a 2nd year coach now that turned his mess around. Meyer is a "liar" because he lies. It's on the record!

But I will not sit back and let people paint everyone who isn't falling in line to praise a coach who is recruiting directly against the interest of the Gators as "hurt" because he left.
The shock of Meyer's leaving was not that great the second time around after his epic post championship collapse in 2008.
I also won't sit by and have anyone try to paint his entire tenure at UF as the greatest job coaching in the history of college football. The bottomline is that it simply wasn't.
He had his "incident" (medical issue, heart attack, fatigue, burn out, acid reflux...whatever anyone wants to lable it is basically irrelevant and moot) and was never the same thereafter.
It is well documented both in actual statistics and in quotes from our players that Meyer played favorites with his star players to the detriment of both team morale and discipline, as well as to the effectiveness of our offense and development of backups.

He basically stopped being the head coach that he had been and did a piss poor job doing much of anything his last two years.
He cried his way into retirement thereafter and then despite Saban like statements that he wasn't going to go back to coach another team anytime soon, he does just that less than two years later.(Hence the indisputable fact that he made a liar out of himself.)
He now directly competes with us for talented players we need and want while having the old Bobby Bowden fast track to easy wins in a now extremely average/crappy conference.

I'm sick of the endless debating that he was good or bad and can't stand seeing this stupid debate repeated every week in yet another thread.
I will enjoy watching Meyer do whatever he does in his new conference then get curb stomped by any SEC team he's unfortunate enough to face if he makes it into a big bowl or playoff.
This holier than thou attitude of many posters claiming he was far superior as a whole to what I know he did/didn't do for our team is as bad as some nole trolls I can name who refuse to admit we kicked their ass this year.
Bottomline is Meyer was great for half his tenure and basically sucked for the second half badly enough that our program had to be rebuilt by Muschamp.
Those of you that can't admit that are just as guilty of lacking football acumen as those who say he was a terrible coach without any qualification of the statement.
Can we now get our ex-coach off our boards and let him fade into the irrrelevant position he chose for himself?
Jesus!!!

I sincerely hope you're not in a position to hire others. You cite a single season as making Meyer and yet it was his FOURTH consecutive season improving a team. If every program was looking for a new coach that year he would have been one of the top candidates for every program.

Additionally, you cite his assistants as the reason for his success. And? What great coach does it by them self? They're managers after all. Why do you think people constantly refer to coaching trees? Jesus, this is so easy to understand. What's even funnier is that he lost both his OC and DC before coming to UF. What happened? He had two more years for six in a row of improving a program and produced three of the four best seasons in UF history.

But whatever, keep up the nonsense.

"He sucked the second half of his tenure." That would include one national championship, one SEC championship, 2 SEC East titles, two 13-1 seasons and an 8-5 season. 34-7

The first half included one national championship, one SEC, one 13-1, one 9-3 and one 9-4 season, with a Heisman winner. 31-8

How did his second half "suck"? I'll agree that 2010 sucked and bled into 2011, but it was exactly one win less than his 2 other non-stellar years. And of course the whole thing collapsed. Got it. Paid to see it.

But I think this is a "you" problem.

I still can't believe some people have what seems like a negative memory of Meyer.
I don't have a negative view of Meyer's tenure just the end of it, the 'health issues', player entitlement issues, the offensive woes, etc. It wasn't just the losses but the whole three ring circus that went along with it, the mass arrest and transfers that bled into 2011. Our team was flat out dysfunctional in 2010 and 2011. Again I can handle losses, it's part of the game but a lot of stuff that people were bothered about extended beyond the field and beyond the cope on normal decline.

My thoughts about Urban and this thread.

1. He's a coward who used a mild medical condition for his exodus. I don't know what the hell is wrong with him but he resigned because the roster looked sketch. Not because he had some out treatment work a year earlier. Come the hell on if you believe that. Has nothing to do with being scorned. Are LSU, UGA, Bama and Auburn fans scorned? No they aren't and they believe he ran away. You don't have to be bitter to find him disingenuous. Some people on this board are so concerned with looking like the voice of reason they'll just be antagonistic cause it makes then feel good. It's not just that he left. I always chuckled at his champion meals, school our west, gator walk etc. charade. It's like he just pulled out a "Tradition For Dummies" handbook. It was contrived. His whole I stood in the middle of the field on a recruiting trip tale was cute. Do I hate him? No. The guy is a BS'r and knows what tales to tell...good for him.
2. He's a great coach, easily top 5.

This exactly...
However, I wouldn't place him top 5 unless he can actually sustain a program's success once his usual "three year plan" runs its course. I doubt he can.
For those telling me to "get help", "take a breath" etc... I say I did, and the help is Will Muschamp who grew up in Gainesville when I did. I also took a breath and all I could taste was the odor of bull being slung around by Meyer Loving eyes tight shut fools who still want to ignore his faults and how they lead to the total collapse of our team over a two year span while he collected paychecks to do virtually nothing.

I don't know, but my stick skills are better than yours. Seriously, I just lob streak routes (with 6'4 receivers, who have a "spectacular catch" rating of at least 88) and jump-catch everything. I'm constantly controlling my free safety, jumping routes, and picking off everything.

Also, I'm a beast with the hit stick.

I am not a big Meyer fan other than the 2 NC he helped win. I do think however winning a NC involves allot of luck. Look at Spurriers last year at UF. THat team could have easily won a NC if things had played out a little differently.

Your comment about a mild medical condition, i question.

The only minor medical conditions are those that happen to other people.

I think he truely felt for his life even though it turned out to be faily minor condition once treated.

If you don’t know what’s wrong with him how in the world can you declare it a “mild medical condition” and then conclude he’s really a coward? I’m amazed at how many people on GC have no concept that anxiety is a real, bona fide medical condition. I hear commercials on the radio every day for a medical center whose sole purpose is treating anxiety. The medical condition exists and it can be debilitating. But while ignorance might be understandable, the vicious mocking of anyone’s medical condition is not. It is despicable.

Opposing fans mocking some other team’s coach. Wow. Glad that never happens on GC.

That is a very true statement. And so is you would not be a “Meyer lover” just because you believed him. I don’t know if he’s disingenuous. I think he’s prone to hyperbole. But so what.

Wow just wow indeed.

So thinking something is going to happen in the future and predicting something is going to happen in the future, are two completely different things to you?

You're going to sit there an tell me that you think Urban came here for the opportunity to win a lot of games, but that you don't think he predicted he was going to win a lot of games while here?

Thinking and predicting are the EXACT same thing in this context. I mean, you've proven you have difficulty with simple comprehension time and time again, but this one takes the cake.

Exactly? Please post a link to support this assertion. Don't try to drag out the "colors" statement because it contained nothing about a year or two later. So it must be somewhere else. You put it in quotes and said that was exactly what he said. So remember, if you cannot produce that exact quote then you are an abject liar.

Again I can handle losses, it's part of the game but a lot of stuff that people were bothered about extended beyond the field and beyond the cope on normal decline.
I agree with you on the off-the-field issues.

The comment was tongue n cheek. Yeah maybe he's on death's door step. There's a chance I'm wrong. But I just don't believe him that he had to resign for health concerns. If you do that's fine, I just don't.

We're the ignorant ones because you know his problem exists I'm taking it. If that's not so you also are taking a giant leap of faith.

I don't see them labeling SOS as a quitter.

Well it's kind of the theme/topic of the thread.

This isn't exactly what happened, though. He had some unknown health issue that caused him to think he was having a heart attack. This is pretty common among people with growing anxiety. He quit based on this and a night at the hospital.

Only later did he get other advice (anxiety, esphogeal spasms, etc.) but he had already decided to return to UF (likely at the request of Foley). So basically, he didn't know what the problem was, but it was scary enough to go to the hospital.

So whether you believe him or not, he initially quit not knowing what happened.

I agree he had a problem and I'm sure it was a serious condition. He quit for 24-48 hours and then again a year later over anxiety concerns (I guess). But luckily he shared a precious letter with his family letting them know he'd be there for him when he came back to Ohio State (similar job) and all is well now.
