He looked at the talent at ND and at UF and chose UF based on the cupboard being full here. He's an opportunist. When he saw rough times ahead with the "broken program", he bolted.

While you're in his head, could you remind him it's Valentine's Day and to pick up some flowers for Shelley.

He choose us over Notre Dame. Was he an opportunist when he took over 2 win Bowling Green? Or 4 win Utah? He choose 8-5 Florida over 6-6 'Dream Job' Notre Dame.

BTW- in 2005, ND went 9-3. The exact same record we had that year. In 2006 ND had 10 wins and that was with a really lousy coach. There wasn't nearly the lack of talent at ND as you guys would like to believe.

So again, he choose us over his dream job because he never really wanted to be here to begin with. Makes perfect sense.

You obviously have never held or worked in a competitive job. Ask Houston Nutt how easy it is to climb the coaching ladder when you have a losing record. Unlike Nutt, who stayed at Ole Miss long enough to record a losing record, Urban got lost when 5-7seemed like a very real possibility. I can handle that, just don't ask me to toss his salad like some of the Urbanites on here.

Hey that's cool if you like distant, aloof Northerners, over homegrown Hall of Fame alumni, dude. No worries.

Sorry, he's still too sick to pick up flowers . . . or mow the lawn or rake leaves or take out the trash. He's only well enough to coach pOSU.

Very strange.

I've always put Spurrier ahead of Meyer.

Somehow by pointing out that Meyer selected UF over ND, you've concluded that I like Meyer more than Spurrier.

Very strange indeed.

BTW- Meyer is 116–23 as a head coach. He could lose every single game for 7 straight years and still have a winning record. I really don't think he was worried about 'climbing the coaching ladder with a losing record.' But that is the sort of common sense that seems to allude some on here.

As far as I know, he couldn't see into the future. The records for 2005 and 2006 hadn't happened at the time he had to make his decision. Then again, maybe you're going to make the claim that your man could see into the future.

Both very good coaches.

I just think Spurrier is a better person.

Don't care that much for Meyer in that capacity. I know some people close to the program that have told me stories that support that.

Nope. You're the one raising the 2005 and 2006 seasons -- I didn't bring them up whatsoever. Nice try, though!

I think you are seriously confused.

Did you or did you not say Meyer selected UF over ND because he was an opportunist?

I assume the opportunity you are speaking of is the opportunity to win a lot of games. If not, please correct me.

When would those games be won? Why, they would be won in 2005 (his first year) and 2006 (his second year) and beyond.

If you think Meyer somehow knew he would win a lot of games at UF, and that's why he choose us over ND, then aren't you the one claiming he has a psychic ability?

All I did was post the records of UF and ND. You're the one making the opportunist claims, which strongly implies you think he knew which program he would win at.

His point is the notion that he chose us over ND, which would be based on 2004, I assume. We were 7-5, ND was 6-6.

In other words, the explanation makes little sense.

In other words, the explanation makes little sense.
Yes, because I'm sure he made the assessment of talent solely on wins and losses from the previous season.

So you're saying that when he was looking at his next potential jump, he didn't look at the quality of the athletes in the program -- what would that have to do with success of his program?

Really, come on, man. You're pulling my leg!

Nice going.
Hence the "he thought" part.

Wow, just wow!

This is BS. Taking a promotion is not quitting! Spurrier said almost every year that we shouldn't count on him staying long term because he might want to take a shot at coaching in the pros. In prior years he had talked to the Buccaneers and others. Spurrier was interested in devloping his career and he found out that he was a better college coach than a pro coach.

Actually yes! He was nobody until Utah went undefeated. I attribute a great deal of his success to first rate assistants and when they left to take head coaching jobs, he seemed helpless....
