It was actually a "Meyer lover" who started the whole debate again by hypothesizing that Spurrier wouldn't have matched Meyer. See page one of the thread about the fourth or fifth post.

It's also nauseating to see him use the same schtick for his third team in a row. It proves his whole act while here was just that...an act.
At least with Spurrier there is a real connection to UF from both his days as a player and a coach. Meyer...not so much.
That doesn't make any sense. When Meyer was here, he was the Florida coach; the leader of the program, and brought us to all new heights and turned us into the team of the decade. There is nothing wrong with praising him for all the good he did while here, while at the same time realizing he's no longer here and is at what many would call our most hated non-rival. I actively cheer against him every game now.

His last two years here we had a 78% winning percentage--that's the same winning percentage as Bear Bryant. And that's what you're flipping out about?

In fact the ONLY reason you seem entitled to think we should have been 'rolling like Alabama' is because of the success that Meyer had. Pretty much every coach does the same thing from job to job... why would he change if he's had so much success?

I didn't say you were the one starting the threads. I am simply saying if you want to stop seeing Meyer's names, it's the haters that are going to have to stop posting.

Want to talk facts? Show me one 'Meyer Lover' thread that's on the first 10 pages of this board. Oops... you can't, can you? So here's the fact you just discovered: 'Meyer Lovers' aren't the ones littering the board with Meyer threads. Excellent discovery.

If 13-1 is 1/2 half of "not that great" I'll take that every two year cycle you've got.

Wait what?

If 13-1 in 2009 is not great than you must 11-2 sucked this year.
In 2010 You could say he was rebuilding...very similar to 2007.

This just cracks me up.

I'll keep saying it. I hate the way he left, but the hyperbole of how terrible he was during some of his tenure screams of elitism rivaled only by Bama fans and UK hoops fans.

This is the same crap that drives me nuts. The same rehashed arguments where Meyer apologists try to point to the fact that we went 13-1 as evidence that Meyer did a great job as head coach in Tebow's senior year.
Meanwhile you completely ignore the fact that his complete abandonment of the job that year (anyone remember Addazio?!!!?) caused our play calling to result in Internet jokes about the predictability of our play calling. Tebow right, Tebow left, Tebow up the middle.

This crap coaching cost one of the best teams ever what should have been a cake walk to an undefeated season and third national title in four years!! It got Tebow hurt and prevented our backups from getting any PT because games that should have been blow outs were close into the fourth quarter.
It also lead to the dissension in our locker room as players realized that favorites were treated differently and had achieved special rules that didn't apply to others.
The whole thing fell apart in your precious 78% winning margin.
It's the reason Brantley wasn't ready. It's the reason we sucked two years later.
And this is like the millionth thread where all of this has been rehashed.
Not because of Meyer haters as you like to believe, but because Meyer lovers can't stand to let even an innocuous posting of a gibe by the Ole Ball Coach go without rabid defense.

By the way...reading comprehension guys...I didn't say 13-1 was a bad record, I said Meyer in his last two years here wasn't good for our team. As proof I point to how it all fell apart. A drop that took several years of his change in coaching style (from being control freak burning candle at both ends to near complete relinquishing of the program to a guy with no business running the team) to accomplish.
Our drop didn't happen overnight, and it wasn't Muschamp's fault. If it was, we would still be spiraling into ever worsening condition rather than rapidly improving as we are.

Wow.

A cake walk to an undefeated season.

I'm not sure your view of things is totally inline with reality.

And it's you're typical revisionist history and ridiculous entitlement issues that leads myself and others to have to post in order to correct you.

Cake walk to an undefeated season? Are you serious? That's the most absurd thing I've seen posted yet! 107 years of Gator football and we've NEVER won every game. Yet somehow, Meyer should have done it easily? Maybe you haven't noticed, but Alabama is a pretty decent team. It's not like we lost to a nobody. Do you blame Spurrier for losing to Nebraska in 95??

Sometimes great teams lose to other great teams. I'd remind you that it was Meyer who put together the longest winning streak in program history and that it was Meyer who put us in position to go undefeated. He's the one that raised your expectation levels, and yet you have the audacity to turnaround and blame him when those expectations aren't met. That's called an entitlement mentality, and it plagues this nation.

And here's a fact for you: Tebow got hurt on a passing play, not a run to the left, right, or middle.

And here's another fact for you: Brantley, after a year of STARTING, still wasn't ready as a FIFTH YEAR SENIOR. Gee... somehow that's Meyer's fault to.

And maybe you could explain to me, how we could be talking about Meyer if the Meyer haters didn't keep starting these threads? There would be no 'rabid defense' if there were no threads. Duh.

I mean, geez... just a little common sense and truthfulness would go a long way.

The real fact is that it IS the "Meyer lovers" who keep racing to his defense anytime anything remotely negative is posted in association with his name. Why dont you show me a thread that starts as "Meyer Hating". You equally can't because thats not the topic of any of the threads that turn into this stupid endless debate.
The threads may make fun of him for stupid things he says, or funny things others say about him, but they dont start as "Meyer sucked as a coach at UF" threads.
Additionally, you get that he is a rival coach now don't you? You get that he made statements that nobody forced him to make that he directly contradicted by returning to coaching so soon don't you? That's a basis for ridicule and derision in my opinion.
Combine this with the fact that he's given lots of publicity by his former employer ESPN and he gets alot of press. That doesn't mean Meyer loving apologists aren't responsible for this endless debate over how f ing great he was his entire time at UF.
Basically someone posts something like "spurrier zings the liar" and by the forth post in the thread someone is blowing cherry smoke around about how great he was for us.
Simple...see

Whatever, GatorSean.
This is the same inane argument that happens in all these threads.
I'm done with it. Declare yourself the winner and pat yourself on the back.
Meyer must be your illegitmate daddy or something.
Fact is, he left our program in disarray and I was able to predict nearly every single play we called in a year when our team was a defending national champion with almost every single piece returning.
Bama benefitted greatly from us losing that title game, and yes I blame Meyer and his abandonment of his job duties as head coach for that loss...deal with it.

Yes, in a way. We tend to excuse players much easier because they're not paid. But it's the same premise: my interests over the team's and the fans'.

Here's exactly what you said:

"I am sick of even seeing his name in this forum."

So you tell me, which group of people are posting his name on this forum? Again... not a single pro-Meyer thread has been created that I can find. So if you're sick of seeing his name, it's pretty clear which group of people you should have a problem with.

The players are on one year contracts. Isn't it a fulfillment of the obligation to finish an individual season?

Still, I think that many here have differing views of what constitutes "quitting" and some views are more encompassing and some views are more granulated. I think that alone leads to some of the differences of opinions and why some folks may get bent out of shape and others might not with allegations of "quitting."

The players are on one-year contracts? I was under the impression we offered four-year scholarships.

Regardless, the point stands.

Quitting is quitting.

The reactions to the ins and outs of the quitting are entirely different. If Meyer had quit to coach the NFL, came back for one year instead, then went to the NFL for a year and came back to coach at OSU, I think the reaction would be the same.

Because most people feel he simply did not want to coach at Florida anymore. And that hurts.

It's also nauseating to see him use the same schtick for his third team in a row. It proves his whole act while here was just that...an act.
At least with Spurrier there is a real connection to UF from both his days as a player and a coach. Meyer...not so much.
He wasn't 2008 great in 2009- but replacing a ton of talent and his OC our team went 13-1 and finished third- with our only loss being to the national title team, that's like saying Spurrier only had one good year (1996) and pretty much every other season was a disappointment.

I was wondering how a thread about SOS zinging UM could last 22 pages... now I know. I have a headache, but I know.

Please, let's all get back to our current coach. We'll blast UM when we play UM, if they get that lucky.

Nope. A scholarship is a one year contract. They may be non-renewed (and frequently are). Some are seeking the ability to implement a new 4-year scholarship (or have that option).
