It's like being a kid and instead of getting all of your presents on Christmas day, you receive them in increments throughout the year and then get nothing on Christmas.
|
Kids should be taught it's better to give than receive. (especially at Christmas). Having a top ten recruiting class makes me feel very good. I'm happy for our team, I'm happy for our fans, I'm happy overall. The incremental pleasure one receives from getting a brief boost by a signing day coup pales in comparison to the overall pleasure one receives from knowing our program is doing very well.
IMO, the OP needs to take a look at him/her self and the interesting thoughts going on in that brain. A good dose of perspective for the OP would probably do alot of good.

lol, you're avatar sums it up the best, I think...
The Humungus: There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

I read it and somewhat understand why the op would be disappointed but you have to step back and think of everyone we have and that alone should not cause disappointment at all. The ..... Is me speechless from all of the people complaining when we have a GREAT class

Nearing the end of the Charlie Weis era, I was looking at old Charlie sitting on his cooler and thinking to myself, HTF can he get around with that humungus FUPA? It was an inspirational moment..

I think the OP did a good job of describing how some, despite recognizing and being happy that we got a great class and Muschamp is a fantastic recruiter, feel a little letdown by Signing Day itself.
And, I think many others have accurately shown how touchy they are about anyone saying anything remotely negative about Signing Day.
I like Muschamp's no-nonsense get-them-committed-early approach (I remember the butterflies (and panic) of Signing Days of yesteryear). And, I'm ecstatic at the class he brought in this year.
But, if some are a little let down by Signing Day itself, but still recognize how great we did, I don't see the big deal. The OP was a lot less aggravating to me than some of the true bellyaching and complaining I've seen on other threads.
Hey, I remember a year under Spurrier when it seemed like every possible decision (including the top-rated player in the country) went our way on Signing Day and it was A HOOT!!! If someone misses that one day of adrenaline and euphoria, I can understand.

Yes, it's more fun that way. Besides, reading is overrated.

When you add in the fact that some of the experts seemed confident that some of these guys would make it in, it makes the letdown even worse. I KNOW the class is a great one and I am thankful for that, but disappointed somewhat in the day. If people don't like it, well, I don't give a damn.

To all of the pilers-on who are bashing this post/poster - I get that you love this class. I do, too. But so does the poster. You all are telling me that you wouldn't have jumped through a window in excitement if a guy like Robert Nkemdiche or Montravius Adams had committed to UF today? And it didn't bother you at all when James Clark and Tashawn Bower went in other directions when we thought there was a strong chance for them to head to Gainesville? That's all this guy is saying. He loves our recruiting class, but he would have loved to have had the cherry on top of the sundae. Reading is fundamental.

However, I can't help but be disappointed - not disappointed in the class, just disappointed in the day. It's like being a kid and instead of getting all of your presents on Christmas day, you receive them in increments throughout the year and then get nothing on Christmas. I think when people complain about our class or Muschamp's inability to close, this is what they are really upset about. Adding to the disappointment was the excitement of getting Bower, only to realize it was a lie, and then losing Clark (to tOSU of all places). Last year was even worse, when we went 0-8 (or whatever it was) on recruits that were considering UF.
I would almost prefer that we have no verbal commitments and then get a deluge of players on NSD. The end result is the same, but it makes for a more exciting finish. Ole Miss fans are probably giddy with delight today (what did they get... like six players?). Muschamp put together an amazing class, but I can't blame those UF fans who are disappointed today. But they should not be disappointed in this class or in Coach Muschamp. He did a great job.

Kinda weird reasoning here.

It's just a dumb thread title. Most people aren't even going to read the post with that title.
I think all the OP is saying is it would be more exciting to have a flurry of big time commitments on NSD than it is to have them spread out throughout the year beforehand. I think most people would agree with that. But with the dumbass title, no one is going to read the actual post.

Wonder if any Texas fans preffer those top 3 classes that were locked up in the fall over the "climactic" class they got today? Hmmmmm.

I like our players signed, sealed and delivered before the shenanigans of NSD.

That's not what he was saying at all! Lol. He wished VHIII and Taylor waited until today and played hat games instead of being boring and comitting last year.

Am I missing something? Isn't tolbert saying the process is a letdown? I get his point. It has nothing to do with his opinion of our class or staff.
I got your point Tolbert.
As for my opinion of the day.. I don't even follow recruiting much during the year. Just show me who we got...coach 'em up...and let's dance!
