Rove Declares War on Tea Party
Until the Republicans find their conservative roots they will be lost. Continued control by the milk toast Rino's has to end. Mr. Rove... the Tea Party isn't going away... Time for you to move on..
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...-war-Tea-Party
The battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party has begun. On one side is the Tea Party. On the other side stand Karl Rove and his establishment team, posing as tacticians while quietly undermining conservatism.
But it is American Crossroads and its ilk that have run the GOP into the ground. Spending millions of dollars on useless 30,000-ft. advertising campaigns during the last election cycle, training candidates to soften conservatism in order to appeal to “moderates,” blowing up the federal budget under George W. Bush as a bipartisan tactic – all of those strategies led the party to a disastrous defeat in 2012. The Tea Party, which may nominate losers from time to time, also brought the Republicans their historic 2010 Congressional victory. If Tea Party candidates lose, it’s because they weren’t good candidates; if GOP establishment candidates lose, it’s because they weren’t good conservatives. The choice for actual conservatives should be easy.
Grover Norquist correctly points out that the Rove mission is nonsense. “People are imagining a problem that doesn’t exist,” said Norquist. “We’ve had people challenge the establishment guy and do swimmingly.” In truth, conservatism wins elections so long as the messenger doesn’t implode. Rove’s view, however, is that conservatism takes a back seat to the best quasi-conservative messenger.

Anyone who thinks the GOP can return to national prominence by becoming more extreme is part of the problem.
People loved Reagan because he was pro-business AND protected Social Security. The masses will not vote for candidates who want to solve our fiscal issues out of the futures of the middle and lower classes.

Who was the last conservative to win a presidential election? Bush was praised as a conservative in 2004, but now you guys claim he was a liberal all along. I guess you'd have to go back to Reagan in 1984, so at best, you're talking about 28 years. But I'm not sure he'd qualify today. Blew federal spending through the roof, no balanced budget, multiple tax hikes, amnesty for illegal immigrants, loosened abortion laws as governor ....
I think you could make a good case that a conservative by today's standards has never been elected president.

Has Rove backed a winning proposition since Bush's reelection? Even one?

The Tea Party must become large enough to make the RINOS either come along or go over to the Democrats where they belong. Anything short of that and the Republicans are perpetual runners up.

IMO Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as VP was his death knell, but he started the slide when he started shifting right to win the Primary. I'm being 100% honest when I say that a moderate Republican could have absolutely gotten my vote in 2012.

When you say "look like Greece" does that mean lots of hairy men and olive skinned women with angular features?

As long as Karl Rove is primarily in the business of parting fools with their money, he's not leading anything to prominance.

And would have lost two or three others in trade for it. Liberal Lite will never beat Liberal in a Presidential election. Romney's push toward the right was the only conceivable path to victory. Republicans being more worried about whether or not center and left vote for them than whether center and right does, always lose.

And this is why I have little hope for our country. Greece wait up...

Fiscal conservatives. Stay away or even support some social issues.
Libertarian is the way to go. But, doubt that happens.

both the right and left extremes in politics needs to be used as a measuring stick of where to stay in the middle
just give me a candidate who wants to run an efficient Gov 'for the people', that works within its means
small, large, repub, dem.....doesn't matter

As long as each side has a base (read money) whose ass has to be kissed, I seriously doubt that anything will change. Just the inevitable march to our financial train wreck while the vast majority of Americans spend their time figuring out which new smart phone to buy.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree, then. My wife and many of my friends were also undecided early in the campaigns, but ultimately went with what we thought was the "lesser of two evils" (no commentary on this please, we all know where you stand).

LOL!
Don't worry though. You got what I am sure you voted for in 2008. No reason to change...

The more liberal candidate has won 5 of the last 6 presidential popular votes. The notion that the US is breathlessly awaiting an Allan West type to run for president is completely ludicrous.
As the GOP continues to use their primary process to move further and further to the right, the more they risk complete irrelevance in any non-gerrymandered scenarios.
