Interestingly enough child porn is the same way. If you're storing images on a hard drive manufactured outside the state you live in, it's a Federal crime.

Thanks, I appreciate the information.

Happens all the time in Federal Court.

You will notice the "ifs" and "buts" in your citations. The suggestion is simple: felons convicted of possessing a gun shall recieve a minimum sentence in federal court. Surely there can be little reason to object to this, and many to support it.

Lots of federal prosecutors spending time prosecuting relatively minor offenses (in comparison to the really big, important cases that federal prosecutors often tell us about) that should generally be left to the States, is one objection.
But if you like expanding the federal executive and want prosecutors to stuff sausages, this is one way to do it.

And that assumes vigorous enforcement as a matter of policy.
Which is another thing altogether.

Your hostility to federal prosecutors is duly noted. Of course we all know they generally lack the high moral standing of defense attorneys.
Now, is there some specific reason beyond that hostility that causes you to want felons to not face minimum jail time for gun possession in federal cases?

Where did LD state there should be no minimum sentencing guidelines? Rather than discuss in a civil manner, you attack one of the board's more well respected posters with a cheap shot insult.
I think this whole thread was about you bragging that you supposedly have someone 'in the know'.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. The Federal criminal justice system is a rigged system.

Unlike LD I only noted the substance of his post, while he claimed I wanted federal prosecutors to stuff sausages, whatever that means. I didn't post to brag about my inside information, but to pass it on. So far no one has come up with any reason to oppose it, except that like LD, they apparently hate federal prosecutors. Sorry - and here comes my insult - but that is just dumb
BTW, if LD can't take it, he should quit dishing it out.

you think putting more time on felons that get caught with a firearm illegally will deter them? these are criminals they don't follow laws.

no, how about actually enforcing the laws now instead of adding stupid laws on top of it

How is what he's suggesting adding a new law? It's already a crime.

Especially thanks for pointing out that federal law already allows for minimum sentence guidelines for felon possession of a gun on a THIRD conviction for other violent crimes, thus protecting the civil rights of those poor misguided souls who only are on their second conviction, not to mention convicted rapists, arsons, and second degree murderers who may be caught innocently packing a Glock. I think that insight pretty much ends all discussion.

Rowe, it is sort of ironic and in a funny way that you as a Lib is supporting a one strike and your out approach and some Conservative posters have at the least not backed that approach.
When it comes to gun violence I am all for the one strike and your out. If you commit a crime with a gun you crossed over the line that divides moral socially behavior into taboo behavior.

As I titled the thread, I thought this would be one area where most could agree. Hopefully they are only arguing out of dislike for me and secretly agree it's almost a no- brainer.

That's what you get for thinking. You invite discussion by starting a thread but call it argument when someone doesnt agree 100% with what you say. That's immaturity at the core level.
Why would anybody dislike you? You never insult or offend anyone here.

My popularity on TH is neither the topic of the thread, or anything I care about. I answered respectfully and on point to anyone posting on this thread about the topic, including you. I have been less than patient with those whose opinion was based solely on dislike for the federal government, whose overall power would remain the same except when dealing with convicted felons caught possessing a gun, which is already a federal crime - HELLOOOOOO!
