You can sit there and try and throw your pathetic attempts at humor and question my morals all you want. I could care less what you hope I am or what I'm not. Please point out where my argument is everybody else is doing it. You can't because I never said that.

10 years ago as well? On the surface, it does look like she got railroaded somewhat.
Now, with their official statement as to the firing, the admin for UT is going to have a few issues NOT firing a coach who had an intimate relationship with a student.

"Only" marital infidelity can wreck people's lives. If your viewpoint is that it's nothing to do with the university, I'd contend it is. Not only is he a highly paid professional with standards of conduct that are expected by his employers, doesn't he owe it to his wife to be better than this? "Just" an affair seems to be scraping the barrel of decency to me but perhaps I hold myself to a higher level of accountability.
This 'indiscretion' took place in Fiesta Bowl Week, Jauary 2009. For the record, that is (according to various online sources) the same MONTH his wife gave birth to their daughter Lila. Giving him a pass is disgusting. I don't care how fantastic the guy is off the record - having a fling whilst your wife is 9 months pregnant is about as morally deplorable as I can stomach...
|
It's an interesting debate, but I do not see the university dictating the morality of extra-marital affairs. Of course, there could be more connected circumstances, in which the affair directly impacts the quality of the program (i.e. if she were an employee also). Otherwise, infidelity is a matter for the family and potentially, the courts, to handle.
BTW - The University of Florida discourages, but does not have a policy against professors having relationships with students. The institution for which I currently work is the same.

See my post above. I'm not saying I agree with the policy (or lack thereof), but public universities often have no rule against it.

If it was in his contract he's got no one to blame but himself. If it wasn't in his contract it's none of Bevo's business. The discipline was probably meted out under a "conduct detrimental to the University" clause. Philosophically, morality, on its face can neither be legislated nor explicitly enforced in contracts because it completely subjective. So what you end up with is a world where we work under the "don't embarrass me or I'll fire you" world. Privacy is a thing of the past, unfortunately, and your private life can get you fired (like the pot smoking math hottie). This is something us parents of college-age children are trying to drill into their heads.
Also:"Cheating" in a marriage is a misuse of the word. The word typically (and exclusively in sports) used to denote activities providing a competitor an unfair advantage. It is intellectually disingenuous to equate the two. Cheating in a marriage is nothing like cheating in football.
And as a point of clarification President Clinton got in hot water for lying, not cheating on his wife. If you're trying to use a president's philandering as a moral compass for the nation, that list has a lot more than one name on it.

Don't need a lecture. I am done with this issue. There are no absolutes. People see things the way they want to.

I was a bit over your head in this exchange. Don't worry, you'll mature in time.
