He should have called an audible to get out of his shot gun formation and went under center. And he should have considered the spread-option since he knew she was such a good ball carrier.

Disagree. He should have pulled out from the center and found a different receiver. A good head bob will usually get a big nasty to release early.
Dan may not have gotten a ring but it appears he led the league in scoring.
