BTW, comparing Homosexuality to Racism is about as racist as one can be. Not even close.

Okay so let's compare homosexuality to religion then. Religion is not innate and requires an action as you categorize it. Many people find that a religion that is not one's own is abhorrent and do not want that religion to be pushed on them or their kids (i.e mandatory prayers in schools etc.) Does that mean that someone who is protestant for example, should be excluded from playing football?
I personally don't associate with any gay people and if someone who were gay in the locker room setting were to make a "move" the criminal justice system could handle it as sexual assault. It is not for us to automatically exclude someone for their sexual choice. Doing so is medieval at best.

Yeah, because homosexuals, who of course demand "tolerance", are themselves so tolerant of people who have an opinion that's different from theirs.

See, discrimination against the military, whether actively serving or a veteran, is also very wrong.

Actually, it crosses the line when he says that gay people have to leave, implying they don't have the same right to play pro football as he does, or at the very least that they don't have the right to express themselves that he does, because he is telling them they can't "come out" during their playing careers. Call it whatever you want, but it's wrong. To make the case that someone can dictate to someone else what they should and shouldn't be allowed to say or do (especially when it is something that doesn't affect this guy) is antithetical to what this country was founded on.

Early AM tomorrow, In the words of that famous immortal american hero, Rodney King, " Can't we all just get along"
I would Love to have the " In Living Color Episode where Jim Carrey and the guy who played Gator growl a few years ago did the skit on poor old Rodney and white guy that was beat up., Rodney, I think came to his demise because of Drugs or Alcohol, his quote, I only say half jokingly would make things alot easier on all of us.

Have great story to end this whole discussion. I have a neigbor across the street who I think is gay but helps me out with projects around the house, he is a good carpenter. The other day we had to install plumbing through my sons closet way at the bathtub drain level.
The guy asked my son to check out the pipe that was connecting the tub with him. So they had to squeeze in the clsoet together, I watched him closely, my son is 17. What can we call this? Going back into the closet. Would he then officially have to come back out? I don't know many jokes to be had from the pipe, the plumbing the closet the drain and the leaking drain. I'll be darned if he didn't fix it though.

There are almost an infinite amount of jokes to go along with this scenario. Unfortunately, he may not appreciate them even though some would actually be pretty funny. Too much of a sitcom scene to not have something said. But I applaud you for biting your tongue. While I think we need to be more accepting of gay people, I also think a "coming out of the closet" joke with a relatively close neighbor has no harm in it at all. I may be at fault in a situation like that though

True. In a lot of ways I felt sorry for Rodney even before his demise. To me, he seemed remorseful for all the rioting and violence his beating launched. But his question immortalized him.

Everybody hates each other over there. It's crazy to think that if it was in person, and no politics were spoken of, a lot of them would probably be best friends. Not to say people with different views can't be best friends

When it comes to the locker room dynamic...is a gay person in a men's locker room like a male on a WNBA roster sharing changing space and showers with a female team?
I can see why a dynamic like that could make someone uncomfortable. Even still his remarks were ill-advised.
I harbor no hatred towards gay people. I do not condone their lifestyle in the same way that I do not condone the lifestyle of someone who gives in to the temptation to cheat on his wife.
I take the Bible at face value. It is clear that we are all sinners (self included), that God loves mankind (gay and straight alike), that homosexuality is a sin, and that God through Christ redeems those who trust in Jesus.
In Christ forever,
Mike

with a bunch of gay players, instead of playing hip hop, rap, rock music in the locker room, they'd have to switch to show tunes. and those color uniforms they have---that just will not do.

The inevitable apology:
Quote:
|
"The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel," Culliver said in a statement released by the team. "It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience."

I take exception to this. You can never paint a group of people with a stroke that is that broad. It doesn't matter the group. There are always the good, the bad and the ugly. I challenge anyone to name any group (think about PETA, your local church, the UF fan base, your own family, this list can go forever) and tell me that there aren't those that are genuine, those that are lukewarm, and those that you wish you didn't have be around. While I agree that those who scream about and demand tolerance are usually the world's worst about being tolerant themselves, not every one is like that and to pretend that this doesn't happen in any group is akin to sticking your head in the sand.
I am always always amazed at how each and every time, the 'locker room' is the justification made for not having gay people on a team. I wish someone could use a more valid point than 'being naked in a locker room together'. Okay, I have been in a locker room and there is more strutting and mouthing in one than you can imagine and I ask: who is it for? There are no women in there. Who does all the talk and naked strutting/chattering impress? Why do it if you aren't looking for attention and these are the ones that scream the loudest about not having gay men in their midst. Mindblowing! Tennis has been on the forefront of this for years. How many times have you ever heard of anyone screaming cause there was a lesbian in the locker room? None...and you won't. Not one tennis player has yet to be assaulted. I think it is time that everyone grow up about this and if the players of the NFL need to get a clue that a gay man can be just as great of an athlete and asset to the team as a straight player.
