It's not a bad show.
It's got a lot of potential, but my only problem is that they;re writing it a little different from the actual DC comics much like they did with Superman's story in Smallville. Of course, we didn't have to wait 10 seaso0ns to see the guy in the hood and green costume either.
The drama and character development is pretty good too, but honestly, you can tell it's a first test season because the budget for the show seems to be limited. Location scenes are pretty good, but the sets are sort of poor and redundant.
The overall thing to be successful is, IMO, not take eons to start introducing the other DC Universe hero characters like Smallville did. They quickly introduced Huntress which i liked, but don;t take too long on bringing Speedy or Black Canary into it either.
I suspect one of the main characters, Ollies best bud, or Laurel's dad, will get killed in S-1 and drive her to being the Bird of Prey we all love and adore. ;-) But my point is too, that she needs to have the meta-human sonic bird cry too. How does that happen?
Ollies inhuman accuracy with his bow is almost meta-human in itself too.
Play the characters smartly, but don;t drag stuff out a long time either. It worked for Smallville, but I don't think many former Smallville viewers will have the patience for it in this show.
Does anyone know how many S-1 eps. there will be btw?

I don't know how many season 1 episodes, but we get a 3 week break and then May 17th is the finale. We get a season 2.

That was pretty cool, but her kissing Tommy ruined it for me.

I doubt they give her the scream doesn't seem like the kind of show with "super powers". Also I figure Ollie's accuracy (and the bad guys in accuracy) is akin to typical action movies. Hell, it pales in comparison to the starling city police's inability to set up a perimeter lol

The scream could be some sort of technology.
Its hilarious that the police never do set up a perimeter. Makes me laugh lol

The thing about super heroes is that they're "super".
Meta-human abilities is a prevailing part of the DC Universe. If Canary doesn't have a meta-human scream, I myself will lose some intrest in this show. It's why they write the comic books of these characters.
Call me old-fashion, or traditionalist, but if you're going to do a super hero show, it's the super hero powers and feats that are the appealing part of the show.
Canary without her meta-human sonic scream is like Superman without his super strength.
This show made me go back and start watching the old cancelled show "Birds of Prey" that I have on DVD too.

He wasn't much in the comics until the H.I.V.E. enhanced him with genetic experiments, and then he really turned into a bad-arse.

I thought Black Canary didn't have the scream for years in the comics?

True per wikipedia:

The original Black Canary possesses no super-powers but is highly proficient in Judo, acting and impersonation.
|
Quote:
|
Dinah Lance, the second Black Canary, possesses a "Canary Cry" – a high-pitched, sonic scream which she can deploy to shatter objects and incapacitate her opponents.

Black Canary lost the Cry during the Green Arrow series.

So she hasn't had the scream quite a bit.

She has the sonic scream in the New 52, the DC Universe reboot. Check Issue #1 of the new Birds of Prey.
Whether she has it or not isn't the question anyway. The DC universe is about meta-humans and the character loses a lot of umph to me without the meta-human ability.
Unfortunately, most of the new storylines of the New 52 DC Universe basically sucks.
They did a good job with the new Supergirl, and Batgirl with a Barbara Gordon who has regained her ability to walk is really very well written and illustrated, but they screwed up the Titans and JLA.

I loved her on Smallville Alaina Huffman, lets see what Katie can do in the more realistic arrow.
