Rutger's Mike Rice player abuse (video)
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/...-slurs-players

This guy shouldn't coach again IMO. Sad story of inempt leadership at Rutgers - they shouldn't have jobs either.
Quote:
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- In several dozen hours of video of Rutgers mens basketball practices obtained by Outside the Lines, coach Mike Rice is seen hurling basketballs from close range at his players' heads, legs and feet; shoving and grabbing his players; feigning punching them; kicking them; and screaming obscenities and homophobic slurs.
The video shows practices from 2010-12. About 30 minutes of the video was viewed in December by athletic director Tim Pernetti, who suspended Rice for three games that month and fined him $50,000. But the incidents in the videos obtained by "Outside the Lines" appear to go beyond Pernetti's description at the time, when he cited "inappropriate behavior and language" between Rice and his players. When he announced the suspension on Dec. 13, Pernetti offered few specifics after conducting a week-long investigation.
In addition to Rice's physical actions seen in the practices, Rice calls Rutgers players "fa--ots," "mother----ers," "pu--ies," "sissy b-tches," and "c----," among other epithets.

You'd hope if you're getting that stupid that you could at least produce some success.

Im kind of old school and think coaches should be allowed more leniency then they are. That said homophobic slurs and actually physical striking or threatening cant be tolerated. College basketball coaches are not only coaches but teachers to impressionable kids who often need a considerable amount of guidance.

Dude's a bully, plain and simple. He should be fired and banned by the NCAA and National High School Athletic Association from ever coaching anything anywhere. That was disgusting to watch. What was most telling was his players reactions to his abuse. It clearly was a common occurrence because they all just carried on like nothing happened.

Yeah I agree. I think there's a certain amount of respect and decency that is required, but other than that coaches should be free to use their own style and kids should be free to want to play for that style if they choose. Problem for Mike is that he lacks the required decency and maturity to coach college athletes.
By the way, I can't figure out how to embed the video. If anyone else can, its probably worth it.

Or do you mean Latrell Sprewell?
So what do you think would happen to any other university employee that did this sort of stuff to a student?

Mike Rice should be arrested. Or put in an insane asylum. I don't know if he is married or has kids, but can you imagine being his wife or kids. He is like the Rasheed Wallace of coaches.

If my son played for this guy, I think I'd be having a closed door meeting with him to "discuss" the situation.

Students, alumni and boosters should be demanding this guy's resignation. What a complete embarrassment to their university. I can't believe that the wagons aren't circling on this guy.

Wow...
Why on earth did his players/assistant coaches let him get away with that for multiple years?
