Question Big Recruiting Changes Coming. Could They Favor UF?

Could these changes allow us to have a better chance with the recruits that Ole Miss and us are chasing? We are in elite class and may be able to use our extra cash to fund an entire recruiting group of coaches and pull away from the others like F$U. Seems like Saban has the advantage with so many support coaches already in play.

"Given that volume, the more significant change for football will be the rule that opens recruiting duties to non-coaches. It's also the one that most clearly favors programs with the deepest pockets.

Theoretically, a powerhouse like Alabama or Ohio State could hire a whole other staff devoted solely to contacting and maintaining relationships with recruits. Other BCS-conference programs, flush with new television money, would presumably follow suit. While some have suggested colleges may follow the NFL model of creating a separate player personnel department, more realistically, more menial recruiting tasks will be delegated to non-coaching personnel."

That's the last thing college football needs. Some people seem determined to kill the sport.

Why would a recruit even care what a non coach says to him. I would want to have contact with the coaches that will actually coach me.

bposs, that's the way I'd feel too as a player. I was just commenting on the sentence I quoted. The more you allow recruiting success to be dependent on financial resources, the more fragmented the sport becomes with fewer teams capable of having ultimate success, and interest dimishes.

This also makes enforcement even harder. Many more people to have to investigate in each athletic department, more processes to sift through, etc.

It's more about having a staff that can evaluate players. For a hypothetical example, Coach Muschamp would still be the one talking to some WR, but he'd only have to look at 5 players' tapes rather than 50. That WR wouldn't really know the difference, but it allows Muschamp to use his time more effectively.

What's there left to enforce?

It seems like that should be "most" people, the way things are these days.

If anything, I think the collegiate recruiting process should be cut to almost nothing. Of course, that would be impossible to enforce.

It's amazing to see how the NCAA has been so severly whipped by the football powers. They have basically conceded impotence, and thrown in the towel.
