And then there are these kind of cops
Often lost amongst the bad things posted on here about police officers are the good things they do.
Quote:
A Louisiana police officer has gone above and beyond the call of duty by making a mentally disabled and autistic boy's dream come true.
Blaize Richard's life dream has been to be a police officer, said his mother, Angie Richard, so for his 18 th birthday on July 28, 2012, she coordinated a visit from one of the Jennings, La., Police Department's officers, who presented Blaize with his own police uniform. Several weeks later, Blaize also was able to visit to the department.
After word of Blaize's dream spread within the department, Officer Mike Hill took the boy under his wing - visiting him often and even coming by the family home when Hill received a new squad car.
"He calls Blaize his back-up," said Richard. "He just comes and checks on him. It really makes Blaize's day. I think Mike enjoys it just as much as Blaize does."

IMO, there are a lot more good cops them bad. The media and the haters only like to point out the negative ones.
Rep to you for the find.

The problem is the good cops almost always protect the bad ones. Does that make them bad too?

Nice human being.
Like 823, I too think the majority of the police are decent, hard working, basically honest folks, who like most of us, try to do the best job they can in the work they do, given the institutional parameters and culture.
That a minority of them are sometimes exposed for deliberate acts of cruelty, violence, and corruption, however, is not the result of a media agenda or because anyone hates them. If anything, police corruption and bad acts are underreported because the media only reports the sensational cases that fall into their laps, and that can't be swept under the institutional rug.
Everyone has a vigilant interest in discovering bad cops and getting rid of them, and getting rid of them should be everybody's business, including the media, the public, and the police.
In this case, it is refreshing to highlight the kindness that humans can show to each other, and in this case, the person was a police officer. Some of them are really good guys and gals.

I really think that the quality of LEO varies widely from department to department. It really depends on their selection process, training, discipline and leadership. Some departments get an A+ in all of the above. Some others get low or failing grades in one or more categories. Your opinion of LEOs in general depends largely on which ones you have interacted with either positively or negatively.

I have never once in my life had an experience with a police officer where I didn't feel he was honest and trying to do a good job.

Nice story in light of our issues in Marion County and the Sheriff debacle of an election we just had...

It doesn't make them bad per se, it just makes them complicit in the destruction of a once honorable profession.
The blue line accomplishes the same or worse result as "don't snitch".
Everybody loses.
