Before the election, the CEO of Murray Energy announced the permanent closing of a coal mine, blaming it completely on Obama. It's now reopened.

I assume that he's now blaming Obama for being forced to stay in business instead of retiring.

Also, just to be clear, does that make it everyone who made public these ridiculous claims about mass layoffs or closings full of crap?

Yes. But those that claimed everything was going to get turned around are just as full of it.

Yes. This board and elsewhere was full of it in the days after the election. Clear evidence of doom, they claimed. I remember people posting every layoff, from a chicken restaurant to a gift shop closing. Monumental stuff.

Natural Gas is killing coal. Cheaper and cleaner.
Oil powered plants are being replaced with NG as well. I see it as a good thing that coal is no longer the first choice due to cost.

Reopened? Reclamation activities are not part of active mining. Hiring back 1/5 of the work force to reclaim the mine is not 'reopening'.

My small town has had over 200 people laid off from two different companies since the election. That's just what I know about...sure there are others in my town
