I don't like turnips, mustards or collards. My mother would fix them and I would just move them around my plate. After awhile she gave up.

DO NOT MESS WITH MY GREENS! Mustard, Collard, or Turnip! Try and take them and you will see what type of gun control we practice down here!
As for a culture that needs to be overcome, why is it politicians always believe THEY know what is best for EVERYONE and it is NEver what is best for them?

BTW just as an FYI boiled peanuts have over four times as much of the healthy antioxidants found in raw or roasted peanuts. It took me quite a few childhood trips through Yeehaw Junction before I finally acquired a taste for those.

Me too!
Several years when I was part of a group that tailgated in the parking garage before Gator games at Florida Field, boiled peanuts was a big part of our gourmet food!
The grouchy Rangel should take up another cause!

As a kid in Georgia I used to stop by the peanut stand to get my bag of boiled peanuts on the way to the Saturday double feature at the movies. Preferred them to popcorn.

I had an uncle that boiled them a lot right up until not long before he died. He called them biled penders or pindars. I did some looking around on the Internet a few years back and found the following as well as some other things. The "biled" part might have just been me not understanding the way he said "boiled" but it sounded like "biled" when he said it. I don't know how accurate this is but it's interesting just the same.
Quote:
Both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington called peanuts "peendar" and "Pindars" (1794, 1798). The origin of the word is African, and black slaves brought the term to the United States. Pinda was the word for peanut in the Gullah language and used by tribes in Angola.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president." Author Unknown

Like mine with small pieces of pork mixed in, a little vinegar jazzed up with some hot Tabasco sauce and a nice size slab of cornbread..

So a black man from the ghetto is made at the southern culture? As if they have added a great deal more to our country, like invention/innovation to our culture.
Maybe the ghetto culture is the culture we need to change and get rid of.
Oh, and last time I checked George Washington Carver was part of that culture too.
