Gator Nation needs a "Papa John" ...
Papa John's helping lower Sugar Bowl prices for Louisville fans
By Chip Patterson |
Papa John's has made a donation to Louisville to offset some of the cost of Sugar Bowl tickets.
With an obligation to sell (or purchase) a set number of tickets, schools face a difficult challenge once that coveted bowl bid is awarded in early December. With the growth of StubHub and other ticket providers on the secondary market, it has become increasingly difficult to sell the full allotment of tickets at face value. The good news for Louisville is that Papa John's is prepared to help take a bite out of that ticket price.
The Louisville-based pizza company made a donation to Louisville to help offset the cost of the remaining tickets to the Cardinals' Jan. 2 meeting with Florida in the Sugar Bowl. The tickets in the 600 level of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome were originally listed for $135 but now can be purchased through the school for $65 thanks to the donation from Papa John's.
The school and Papa John's have also teamed up with local military and charitable organizations to allow Louisville fans to purchase the discounted tickets for a soldier or youth in the New Orleans area. The ticket will be a tax deductible donation and, according to Louisville, it will ensure not only that the school sells its full allotment but also that those seats are filled with fans ready to support the Cardinals.
As of Friday, the school had sold more than 14,000 of its 17,500 ticket allotment required by the Sugar Bowl. Florida, on the other hand, is reportedly struggling to sell its allotment for the Gators' first BCS bowl game since the 2010 Sugar Bowl. That game -- also against the Big East champion, the Cincinnati Bearcats -- didn't attract much interest from Florida fans who believed the Gators deserved to be in the national championship game.
"We certainly understand the financial commitment it takes to travel to and attend a game like the Sugar Bowl, and we are very appreciative of the support of our fans who are making their way to New Orleans," Mike Hill, the school's associate AD of external affairs, said in an official statement last week. "We are looking forward to celebrating a special football season with them in the Big Easy as we bring in the New Year and close the curtain on a very memorable 2012 season."

For those interested, we have just posted all the Conference Officials Assignments for the all the Bowl Games in the Opening Post of this Sugar Bowl thread. Also any general info such as this we come across that we think may be of interest to posters about the Bowls, we'll post it in the OP of this Sugar Bowl game thread. So if you're curious about something, check out the OP on here, you may be surprised to see what all we have posted and then added.
For example, check the OP and you will see I just posted which Conference Officials will be working the Sugar Bowl. And near the bottom of the OP is all the listing of all the Conference Officials of all the Bowl Games.

SUGAR BOWL
WHO: Louisville (10-2) vs. Florida (11-1)
WHERE: New Orleans, La.
WHEN: Jan. 2, 8:30 p.m. EST
TV: ESPN
PAYOUT PER TEAM: $17 million
FLORIDA PLAYER TO WATCH: Sharrif Floyd is probably the best player on the field. He can dominate a game and needs to against this offense.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER TO WATCH: Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is considered the biggest recruit Charlie Strong has pulled to Louisville and he’s lived up to the hype.
FUN FACT: Had Strong taken the Tennessee job, Florida would have been playing on consecutive Sugar Bowls against Big East teams with interim coaches (Cincinnati, 2009 season).
ON 1-TO-10 SCALE: 6. Florida has been hard to watch all season, but the Strong vs. Florida angle makes this an interesting game.

Good stuff Ray as usual.
So the announcers for our game will be Sean McDonough & Chris Spielman.

Meet the players?
Anyone know when and where we can meet the players? We went to the 06 championship game and it was the day before. Got the VIP tickets and can't wait.

Big Ten Refs - they are a few notches below the SEC and on par with the ACC and PAC 12. In other word, they aren't very good so expect more than normal ref involvement in the game. I'd project 10-12 UF penalties, more pass interference calls than deserved, on a physical UF team.

Interesting side story in this game is that there will be siblings playing for the opposing teams. Hunter Joyer has a brother who is an offensive lineman for Louisville. Kamram Joyer.

It was either The Tampa Tribune or The Lakeland Ledger that recently had a great article on these 2 brothers. Maybe both of them. If I get the time, and can remember, I'll try and run it down.
In the meantime here are the 2 papers sports links.

Joyer Brothers Will Battle For Bragging Rights
>> A few days before the college football bowl announcements were made, Karman Joyer contacted his younger brother Hunter to tell him there was a chance that Kamrans's Louisville Cardinals might be selected to play Hunter's Florida Gators in a bowl game.
Yeah right, Hunter thought. Afterall, the projections he had been seeing had Florida playing Oklahoma.
"I really kind of shot that down, didn't really give it a shot," Hunter Joyer said.
Turns out, the older Joyer was right.

Okay, I hope all our players were watching LSU embarrass the conference tonight. Don't take Louisville lightly.

exactly. But then again after the Missouri and ULL games, I don't think our coaching staff should have many problems keeping the players focused.

I sure agree with you. We need a solid win in the Sugar Bowl. We need all SEC teams with upcoming Bowl games to get solid wins!

I hope we don't start out uninspired, then start fighting in the second half and get a bunch of stupid penalties. We need to come out inspired and put it in the endzone. If we just line up and run the ball and not mix it up, we could get in trouble. Here's hoping we blow out a Big East team!
