Gator DEFENSE: FANTASTIC!
loved watching the defense vs A&M. some stellar effort on most every possession by all. all working in tandem, all working hard individually. took a&m deep into the shot clock multiple times. that's great overall TEAM 'd' to do that regularly. very impressed w/ the effort. and the players are taking pride in being one of the top defensive teams in the nation this year. maybe billy ball is transforming into tough rugged D-ball w/ up-tempo transition offense. gotta think that combo will attract the recruits. gotta think that combo's gonna attract the fans (wins do!). eh?

I agree. Kind of like the run game for the football team this year, it has been absolute surprise. I knew we would be improved because of experience and depth and Wilbekin getting more minutes since he has been our best perimeter defender the last two seasons. But I never saw the improvement Young and Murphy would make, nor did I imagine good we could be in the zone. Above all, I didn't anticipate how consistent we would be. Third in scoring defense is remarkable given how much we play in transition and the extra possessions we give, but we are also fifth in FG% defense, only 10th in fouls committed, and 21st in rebounding margin.

The four Juniors improved the Gator's defense when they arrived, and have continued to mature and improve during the past three years.
Recall that it was Wilbekin who shut down A&M's Elston Turner, just like he shut down Tennessee's offensively dangerous small forward as a freshman.
Even Rosario is playing defense this year, which is a really important change, and Boynton, Prather and Yeguete have always been outstanding defenders. Young has really improved his defense as well and even Murphy is playing good defense. The frosh make mistakes, but that is only to be expected, all of them also have the future possibility of being very strong defenders.

As you say, the JRs really have been good defenders since they arrived. Also Murphy has been a good defender for a year and a half or more. He led UF in blocks last year.

It was beautiful motion throughout.

I think the best word to describe the defensive performance is: "Fantastic."

This defense is as good as any I've seen under Donovan.
