"Early Warnings: Sizing up college hoops' contenders, pretenders"
Lumped us in with Duke.

* Florida and Duke are the most balanced in terms of offensive and defensive quality; they're the only two teams in the country that rank in the top 10 in both. Louisville and Kansas are in a similar situation where they're tilted toward D, although the Cardinals rely a lot on turnover creation, while the Jayhawks' focus on protecting the basket (and having Jeff Withey swat everything). Indiana, meanwhile, shouldn't be kicked aside after that home loss to Wisconsin. The Hoosiers have an efficiency profile that suggests they're still the Big Ten's best title candidate.

Looks like we are underated among the "Prime Title Contenders". AP poll numbers 1,2,3,4 & 10(Fla) We never get the respect of the Dukes, Louisville, Kansas, & Indiana.

Of course, he is comparing mid season this year to end of year for other years. As someone pointed out on another thread, by advancing to the final four a team plays 4 good teams so part of what it going on is that the teams that advance improve their numbers at least some.

If you know anything about college basketball, you cannot possibly believe the Gators are in the same category as those basketball royalty. We simply don't have the history. It's be the same thing as a fan of either of those teams bitching about getting snubbed by a football article.

What does history have to do with whether we are in the same class as them this year?

I hate it when folks complain about us not getting respect. We get our fair share. The main reason we are not in the AP top five is that we have 2 losses. The top 8 teams in the AP poll only have 1 loss. Take away either the AZ loss or the Kansas St loss and we'd be ranked higher, possibly in the top 5.

It's the 2 losses.
We're #10 right now. The only higher ranked 2 loss team is Minnesota at #9 (who lost this week). Now #2 Indiana has 2 losses so it will be interesting to see how far they fall and we move up if we beat Missouri.

If we'd have held on vs zona, we're top 3. Perception, is everything until RPI and the committee seeds.

My statement is based on current stats this year, jack. Not talking about history of basketball royalty. The article was about this year, only, and was based on stats this year.

Good one LURKER!!!!!
I applaud you for making that point so well.
Speaking of which, can you recommend a good source for a Functional Sarcasm Detector, I haven't even been able to find a good one on Amazon?

Interestingly enough, while Luke Winn can call the Gators "prime contenders" in the above article, a couple days before he had us pegged #17 in his power poll. He joined follow SI.com writer Seth Davis. His AP ballot for the week also had the Gators at #17 which was down from #15 from the week before, this after routing UGA and LSU. You would be hard pressed to find any other national writers who are ranking the Gators so poorly at this point in the season.

In the long run, "respect" derives from three things:
1 - Season long performance, and particularly Conference performance.
2 - Conference Tournament performance
3 - NCAA Tournament performance
It is really quite simple.
