Who will wear #1 next season?

There are some gator fans who mistakenly think #1 was designated as a "special" number ... "given to the best player" or whatever ... because Reggie Nelson and Percy Harvin coincidentally wore it in back to back years.

Players who have recently worn #1 ... someone please explain where the "best player tradition" comes from by looking at this list. Rainey is such a "leader" that he carries the "tradition" after getting arrested for telling his girlfriend "time to die, bitch?" ... Sure, Janoris was a stud DB, but he was kicked off the team, no great example there either. Also, does it make sense for ANY decent coach to preach about the unity and cohesiveness of a TEAM, then single out one player as being "the best on the team" - especially around the egos of athletes?

I dont think so. If a kid works hard and has elavated his practice and game performances then he should have an opportunity. I agree it is sort of a "me" rewards but you gotta have those type of rewards. Especially if the kids respond to it. I personally dont care what number these kids wear and think they shouldnt either. Create your own name in your own number. Be legendary regardless.
