Should CWM extend an offer to Tim Tebow
If in fact, Tim's NFL career is over, my question is, Should CMW extend an invitation to Tim Tebow to join UF's coaching staff as an assistant. I remember Urban Myer saying he would be an excellent college football coach and I certainly agree. With his leadership abilities and his outgoing personality, can you just imagine what an outstanding recruiter he would be? On top of that, can you imagine the opportunity Tim would have to influence the lives of so many young athletes?

Probably a little too soon. Lets say his nfl career is over which I don't believe it is... I think he would rather give the CFL a shot. I think he would make a great coach one day though. But what if he's not successful as a coach... He's almost unfirable. It's hard to hire a guy that you can't fire. Like Jeff Bowden was to bobby.

You gotta start somewhere. I am not sure if you start as a graduate assistant or QB coach. Perhaps he assists the existing QB coach. The University of Florida can not afford to have him coaching elsewhere. I am sure CUM is thinking along these lines and will be contacting him shortly unless he has already done so.

why do people think he would be a great coach? The word is he has a hard time reading defenses so what could he teach to a young QB?

i'd endorse it, in a heartbeat. but i think tim may try the canadian league first. but i think it's worth a phone call by Will to Tim to gauge interest and talk possibilities.

I don't see Tim as a coach. Once he leaves football, he'll use his star power for something else (some mix of community service and religious service).

I agree with gatorbogey. You have to at least try. Tim has many many options and I firmly believe he will be a success in whatever course he chooses.

I kind of think this as well. A lot of great players just dont make good coaches. Tim was a pretty big improvisor and force of nature as a football player. Hard to teach that. Maybe he can but I am not sure. I actually think he might make a better strength coach. He was clearly a weight room warrior and I could see him being a huge motivator in that way.

You'd be correct. Tim doesn't have the desire to coach; at least not right out of football anyways. His path in life is exactly what you stated.

And a lot of good coaches were not good football players. Take a look at the Wiki on Bill Belichick. Not a bad coach.

Yeah but I was focusing on the other side of that because I consider Tim a great college player. And the list of great players that become great coaches is probably pretty small. Most of the major coaches were mediocre players.

Yes I did misread your post. We could go back and forth on this one but in general, you are right. However, one great college player that I consider a great college coach is Steve Spurrier. There are not many though.

How much can he mess up as just a assistant?

On a side note, he'd be one hell of a motivator. Could you imagine Tebow and Dillman on the same sideline. Holy chit batman!

I'm not sure how he'd be as a QB coach if that was what he was brought on for. His release isn't traditional, though I'm sure he's learned all about proper technique. Although coaches often coach outside the position they played themselves, so he could coach another position if he knows his stuff.
I think Chris Leak would make a better college coach than Tebow, especially as a QB coach or even as an offensive coordinator.

I could see Tebow on the Gator staff as the closer on a specific recruit Florida is trying to get. Kids in high schools look up to him now so I could see Tebow used as a recruiting tool some day. Imagine Tebow coming in to their home along with Muschamp and Pease.
