Teo had 10 tackles. He could play in the sec but he wouldnt be a standout. He was the best defensive player on nds ream. That is why he got the hype along with having a cool name.and his mama died, or his grandma.
RG3 is the same thing. Russell Wilson is juzt as good. So os Caperneck. They just dont have a cool name.

I didn't call him that. But someone questioned if he made even one tackle.

Read somewhere where a comment was posted on the Manti facebook page in response to his father's comments about canceling the Honolulu paper...
Does this mean I should cancel my DirectTV for them showing your son miss fifteen tackles during the game?

What I don't understand is how anyone would really know it was Te'o' from that picture unless it identified him.

No, he did not say that. I believe the line was "most heralded" or "most decorated." It was in reference to the number of awards he won, which was extraordinary.
The photo is an accurate depiction of the game's events (minus the tread marks) and the reaction by Teo's father is laughable.

The picture depicts exactly what happened.

Left upper arm tatoo distinctly Te'os.
I have no idea how many tackles he made or missed, but the whole idea of his father pushing for cancellations of the newspaper simply because they posted a pic of what was a fairly common sight in the game is laughable.
How many times have we seen the Gainesville paper put a photo in of a Gator loss which shows the other team scoring or hauling in a pass or running over a Gator?--probably several.
A game of this magnitude, with Bama winning it convincingly SHOULD have a photo in the media showing a Bama player doing something positive. Not the Gumps fault the ND players can't tackle and a photographer just happened to get the shot.

Wow.....can't believe the majority here hold the irrational opinion that Te'o isn't an SEC caliber player. Not only is he an SEC caliber player, but he would challenge Minter & Mosely for their spot on the all SEC team. The guy is going to be a top 25 pick and most here think he wouldn't even play in the SEC?? Really??

The guy made some decent plays on some INTs where the ball was deflected or the QB didn't see him, but other than that there really isn't much there. Everyone makes a big deal about his tackle count but that is only good for ~50th in FBS and worse than 100th for solo tackles. And, only 5.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks on the season? Really?
He did have 10 tackles in the NCG, but only 3 solo, 0 TFL, and 0 sacks.

Wow. I have weird feelings about this. Why are we water carriers for Bama all of a sudden? You would think by the gloating that we had won the NC, instead of looking like fools against the Big East. Truth is ND, including Teo, were overrated. Not his fault! How is that the kid, or his dad's fault? For the hometown paper to print it, when there were uncountable equally embarrassing moments for ND in the game, is kind of a slap in the face to a local kid. Furthermore, lets put it in perspective; Saban is scum and Bama is a lowdown dirty football factory. The SAT score of one ND player probably equals Bama's entire roster. I hated to see ND in the game, because they didn't belong there and I wanted a good game... that is all. I don't gloat over a hated rival with a dirty coach and program winning an NC. Why would I? Why would you?

I don't think many in here are gloating over a hated rival as much as finding what Te'o dad is calling for to be a genuine laugher. It may have been a local hero boy, but his team got destroyed in the biggest college game of the year, and they chose to use a pic which should, if nothing else...demostrate just HOW much ND was ovdermatched. I doubt it was the intent necessarily of the paper to try and embarress Te'o as much as show just how much of a slaughter the game actually was, and how much better the Gumps were than that sacred school up north which had NO BUSINESS whatsoever being in the game at all.
May as well show some pics of Te'o---there ain't gonna be many chances for a local boy from Hawaii to EVER be in the BCSCG.

I don't think people hate him as much as they realize the J. Clownsy and Jarvis Jones alone dwarf him on the field, yet because he played for ND he was lionized. He got more votes for a pure defensive player than anyone in history and there are at least 2 kids this year that are light years better than him, let alone the other 70 years of the award, or however many years it's been. There have literally been dozens of defensive players way better than hin just in my 25 years of really watching CF. Seeing him play a real team and exposed for what he is, a very good but by no means singular talent was why there is the schaedenfruede. Just more of the ridiculous sycophants that slurp up all things ND getting him far more than he earned.
Having said all of that, by all accounts he is an excellent human being and I hope he has a great career, just happy to things level more to where they should have been all along. Reminds me of Troy Smith in 2006, all season he was all world and his team was unbeatable, and in no small part because of our game he fell from 1st rounder all the way to the third round.

Maybe you've seen him play a lot, I haven't. The only time I've seen him play was in the NC game. And considering the number of tackles he missed in that game I think he probably would be a starter for most teams in the SEC but I don't think he'd be anything exceptional. Certainly nothing like all the accolades he's gotten at ND. Maybe the NC game was an aberration, maybe he normally encounters players like Lacy and the other Alabama RB and stops them cold. But if so he certainly forgot how to do it in the NC game.
Loosely translated, in English Manti Te'o means Missed Tackle.

Father is wrong here. The kid is a good player but not great.
