It could be quite the predicament if he gets better and becomes the starter after Driskel... Then what about Grier? Or do you see him being the next starter no matter what..
I think it will come down to Mournhinweg or Grier. Mournhinweg is very athletic but he pushes the ball out of his hand sometimes so Pease will have to change that. If Grier can get a total grasp of the offense his redshirt year he will be hard to beat out.
I dont think it will happen but there is a slight chance Florida takes another QB this year
I don't know if people would agree but Asiantii? I think he would be a great get. He could transition into something else possibly? But Manziel was a 3* so I mean Staver could be a diamond in the rough like Morrison... Staver can run the ball much like Grier, and as I said before mornhinweg was personally recruited by Pease, he likes him so you never know. Oh well as long as its a winner, I personally like dual threat QB's who throw first and run second....
[quote=Gulfsailinggator;6310778]In one list I put the following: Shane Matthews, Danny Wuerfell, Rex Grossman
In this list I put the following: Terry Dean, Doug Johnson, Chris Leak, John Brantley, Tim Tebow, Bobby Sabelhaus, Brock Berlin.
The first list were not the top shelf players and three of the best QBs we ever had.
The second list were highly ranked studs.....with Tim Tebow being the outlier, and I would say Leak was only because he won the national title (but probably under performed overall) The rest in the second list didn't live up to expectation or were outright flops....[/QUOTE
You are off base on some of that. First off, Wuerffel was very highly recruited. Him and Danny Kanell were really the only 2 qbs Spurrier went after that year. Secondly, Im not a huge Leak fan but theres no way I would list him as a player that did not live up to his ranking. Terry Dean would have also made a good qb but happened to be here the same time Wuerffel was. He lit it up in, I believe, the Sugar bowl one year when Wuerffel was hurt.
the only reply I would say on Wuerffel, is that he didn't have the "tools" highly ranked in the state, but was he nationally highly ranked....I don't recall?

From the film I saw I dont think Asiantii is a good enough athlete to play anything but QB at Florida. I liked Asiantii's film you could tell he is still learning the position but the mechanics are pretty good. The only thing I had a problem with is sometimes he just stands and throws doesn't really step into to it and transfer his weight.
Staver has the physical tools to be a big time QB the question is can he put it all together.
I dont get this Mornhinweg was personally recruited by Pease thing. It was the end of the cycle and they had limited choices.
What is this supposed to mean? I take it as a shot against John. He was a great Gator and a hellava leader. The guy almost had 200 passing yards against Bama... In the first half!

It's to late for you. Sticking up for a Gator will not erase the Nole stain you have. Nice try though.

The ranking is unimportant when you have a guy like Grier coming behind him. Why? Because you want to get a guy that won't be afraid to battle for a position, fill up the depth chart, and someone who wants to be a Gator. Plus, more than a fair share of QB's have failed to live up to their ranking (one way or the other). Just have to hope you catch lightning in a bottle with guys like this.
For what its worth, I like Staver as much or more than almost any other QB the Gators were looking at this year.
Staver impressed the coaches the most and played the best at Friday Night Lights.
He sounds like a very intelligent, articulate, mature guy. Glad he's a Gator, don't care about the rankings.

Greg McElroy wasn't terribly different. Fairly average three-star prospect in all the services. But in the right system with the right talent around him, McElory flourished. If we were pinning our hopes on the kid, then I might be worried, but as a transition class sort of prospect I think he is a nice fit.
Leak was the number 1 player in high school football. He spent much of his career in Gainesville throwing some of the most beautiful under thrown balls I ever saw, a perpetual deer in the headlights look, and sliding two yards shy of the first down. Yes his senior year was above average, the rest average to middling.
Tebow was the only high ranked stud we have had that truly lived up to the billing and then some
If we had his past season or have in this coming one a qb anywhere near as good as Leak was in any of his 4 years here (even his true freshman one) we would have won the national title-- if Chris was below average our qbs the last 3 years have been abysmal- guy beat the national title winning LSU team in Death Valley, a team coached by Saban and he did it throwing the ball not by handing off every play.
