Yep. The wealthiest country in the history of Earth, with the best healthcare, lowest infant mortality, highest number of luxury purchases. If we just fall another 196 slots, we'll be at the bottom for sure. Almost there.

We have the best in the world. I can set up a matrix that shows us to have the worst on the planet... But it doesn't make it true.

fair tax--too regressive to ever get passed. Wealthy who spend a small % of their income would pay little tax compared to someone making $80,000 who spends all of their income on necessities.

Corporations as we all know... Never ever pay tax. Never have... Never will... People pay taxes.

Bill can't seem to get it through his head that "everyone" does contribute to paying taxes, just not INCOME taxes.
He can't seem to get his head around the fact that Nixon, Reagan, and Bush II put people in income tax brackets that pay no taxes so that super rich folks could come out of their traditional tax brackets of 40-90%.
Now the rich are doing fine no matter what bracket they are in, the rest of the country.... not so much.
Between giving it away to special interests in every legislative session, starting wars we don't pay for, and fellating the rich, the deficit has ballooned due to Republican administrations.

Saint- I am well aware of your posture on this issue-I am talking about income taxes and those who pay little or nothing
while I would prefer the fair tax or a national sales tax-I would gladly accept a flat tax no deductions everyone who has income pays- until everyone has skin in the game we will continue to have a great deal of our citizenry on the dole instead of being producers

If the total tax burden is somewhat similar between two citizens, one rich, one poor, why in the hell would anyone care what the poor pay in income taxes???
Everyone, indeed, has skin in the game, just not skin that is tatooed "INCOME TAX"
Which part of that can't your brain grasp?

the total tax burden is not equal and until the close to 50% who pay zero income taxes start paying income taxes will will continue to dig this hole deeper
your prez has been extremely successful in his class envy/warfare mantra

And putting your head in the sand and not seeing the wealth disparity in the country growing day by day means you are willingly led about by the nose by your Tea Party e-mails.

It's a sales tax. 30 cents on a dollar.
When we add a seven cents on a dollar, we call it a seven percent sales tax. We don't say, "Well, technically, that 7 cents tax is only 6.5 percent of the final $1.07. So it's really only a 6.5 percent tax."
Seven cents on a dollar is a seven-percent tax.
30 cents on the dollar is a 30 percent tax.

That would be the flat tax you are thinking of. The fair tax plan includes a prebate that would make it less regressive, but (shhh) would also mean that some of the people at the bottom have no net tax burden.

this "prebate" still doesn't make the fair tax non-regressive. It's just a PR thing for selling it to the public.

The total tax burden is actually quite close. The progressive federal income tax structure is made up for by the regressive nature of all of the other taxes.
This was as of 2008:

Well, govt deficit created inflation is a pretty close second. If it was called by what it really is - a tax. The govt just spends it before it collects it and devalues the dollar in the process.

The ONLY way you will ever supposedly make everyone equal is through socialism and communism- others the doers are always going to have more than the takers

Almost equally worth noting is that the only place at which such equality could be affixed is at the low end. If you scale it globally, it would necessarily mean every American in a state that they would recognize as nothing short of abject poverty.

You sound like one of those "Love it or leave it!" types.
BTW, we're about the 15th best country in the world in the latest rankings (and falling).
But we are the fattest!
