Thanks for your suggestion. I drive through Blacksburg at least twice a year and have been to several games at Va Tech. I have been to Missouri more than I'd like to admit (work related). Blacksburg, VA is a very similar town to Knoxville....which I would say is as southern as any SEC city. Missouri football fans are sticks in the mud compared to Va Tech fans. No comparison. Additionally, tapping into Virginia Tech gets the SEC the entire state as far as marketing.
Thanks for your suggestion, but Missouri does not belong in our conference. I have suggestion for you.....

Seen it plenty of times. Actually saw it last year at the Smithsonian American History Museum in DC. They had a question answer session beforehand w/ some history buff. I asked him, "Does Missouri belong in the SEC?" He laughed and said it was ridiculous!

Agreed. Their fans and gameday experience blow away many, many SEC schools and are on par with practically any of them. The Northern Virginia/DC area is over-run with them.... Missouri belongs in the B12, period.

There is absolutely no reason a war fought 150 years ago should have anything to do with what teams the SEC should have.
Missouri doesn't fit IMO because their biggest rivals are in the big12 or big10, where they belong.

I just can't agree. I've been to Blacksburg, and although I did enjoy myself, I enjoyed the Missouri games much more and can only think of 1 or 2 teams tops that it currently contends with in the SEC. Now when we expand more, ill be all for the Hokies joining but I wouldn't take them over our two recent additions.

Almost sounds like you're a hokie fan which makes sense now. Carry on.....

Typical response from someone who has no arguement: an insult. For what it's worth I'm a UF grad and former founding member/president of a Gator Club. But I'm sure those credentials aren't good enough for you.
You should open your eyes occasionally and realize that other schools have fans and boosters other than UF.

Wasn't an insult. Your argument made it sound very pro hokie when in fact nothing you said even remotely came close to proving your point. Because you drive through towns you now can make educated comments regarding which school is more SEC?
I never questioned your allegiance or fandom. Only pointed out that your conclusion was/is very wrong. My line of work actually allows me to go to multiple games a year and over the past 7-8 years and Missouri is every bit of SEC quality as the rest. That's not a knock on v tech but only a praise for Missouri. I've always been impressed with every game I've been to and have always thought they could end up in the SEC should expansion happen.
Definitely didn't mean to offend you and my apologies if i did.

Going by your example expansion shouldn't even happen. Nobody would make you happy because every team has a rival that might not be in their same conference. Texas A&M had Texas until now. Should they've stayed in the big whatever?

Pretty much, college football is about rivalries, if you ditch that then there is no reason to keep under achieving schools (hello Mississippi schools) on board due to tradition.

I'm all for tradition, and just because a team joins another conference, that shouldn't mean they should stop playing their rival. Expansion is great for recruiting, fanfare, and making the field a little more even IMO.

T-0823, no worries. We all have opinions. I've been living in the DC area for the last 5 years and have had the chance to go to southern Virginia...when I said I "drove through" I actually have been to several games there. I've also gone to UVA, Maryland and Navy games since I've been here. Hell, I went to a James Madison (1AA) game (and it was great!). The only place that was remotely close to SEC was Va Tech. I've been to every SEC stadium except Texas A&M and Missouri. Va Tech blows away many of the SEC environments. I personally think Missouri is outside the reach of the "SE" in "southeastern" conference. Hell, so is Texas A&M...but they are Texas A&M. They are huge....they have one of the largest public school endowments (bigger than ours). Plus they are known for football. And as mentioned, just because a state is full of rednecks doesn't make them southern. There are plenty of rednecks in every state I've ever been to!

Virginia Tech's atmosphere blows away most of the SEC, and is comparable to the best of the SEC. They fit like a glove, and considering their locale, they fit the SEC better than Florida, frankly. That entire area is as Southern as boiled peanuts and RC Cola. Don't confuse Virginia Tech (or the state of Virginia) with the greater DC area (northern Virginia). Those folks are southern and absolutely RABID about their football.
Their inclusion would necessitate an annual rivalry with Texas A&M, the last two land-grant schools that have an active Corps of Cadets. Can you imagine the pageantry?

Now if you're trying to compare a game day experience from VT to places like Kentucky and The Mississippi schools then I'd agree. However the ones knocking Missouri has flat out lost it. Missouri is down with the cause and the cause is SEC football

Sorry, but no one speaks nationally of Mizzou's opening as they do VT's at Lane Stadium. Get real. Mizzou is nowhere CLOSE to VT - in gameday atmosphere, fan support or the quality of the football program. VT is miles ahead in all three, and has the entire state of Virginia as a fanbase. Missouri is halfway in the Big Ten.
VT's presence is comparable to LSU's, Bama's, Florida's, and Georgia's, as well as Tennessee's and Auburn's. It is ahead of everyone else's, except for maybe Texas A&M's which is terrific.

You're crazy. Do you even follow college football? Nothing you stated is true at all. What quality of football program does VT have? They did good in a weak big east and now they're struggling in a weak acc. I take it you have never been to a Missouri game and would challenge you to go before making crazy comments. Lane Stadium is nothing compared to the other SEC schools you mentioned.
