Fortunately, he's Pittsburgh's problem now and not ours.

I do...but she didnt...thats why its irrelevant.
A small girl slapping an NFL running back is not the same as the reverse. However, Had she slapped him...and he pressed charges, than yes she should be held accountable.

The police should release him into the custody of Lisa Webster, the primary authority figure in his life. She raised two fine boys, but only had a couple of years as Chris' guardian. Lisa would slap some sense into him. He should remain there under house arrest until next season.

I think the problem with these "smaller" incidents is that they get swept under the rug and that down the line it could lead to a real serious problem.
Think about what you (everyone, not atlgator) would do if someone took your cell phone. You might have some choice words. You might even chase/follow them to try to get it back. Not sure what part of him thought it would be okay to get physical.
The point being that because of the slaps on the wrist, people don't see the downside to this type of behavior and seem to keep doing it. Athletes in particular.
|
I know you weren't. And I understand your point of view. But I think whereas some people want to justifying an athlete's actions or give preferential treatment to athletes, that's not at all what I'm trying to do.
I'm saying that if Rainey was a total nobody and this incident happened, I don't think it would go to court either because the victim has little to gain from pressing criminal charges. The most she would get for Rainey to go to jail for what's probably a short amount of time, but in the process. would possibly implicate herself and find herself in jail. But because of the circumstances, I find it unlikely that it would ever get to trial based on what's written about the incident.
The only way she'd gain anything would be to press civil charges but she would have to show injuries and apparently there were none.
Again, I don't want to sound like I'm defending Rainey's actions because I'm not. But to some extent, at least from what is written, Rainey may have learned from the first incident. As far as we know, he didn't threaten her, and where many guys would instinctively punch, he apparently made a conscious effort to slap her instead. And outside of the slap, he apparently didn't do anything to intentionally try to hurt her. He just presumedly did what he had to do to get his phone back.
Bad judgement? Absolutely?
But was a crime committed where a criminal court is going to take time to listen to and find him guilty and lock him up?!?! At first glance I kind of doubt it.

I agree. I was just meaning some will still hold this against the program.

Hitting a woman in self-defense? Really? What's he defending himself from? He's responding to his phone being taken by hitting a woman when he is under no threat of bodily injury. Self defense doesn't have chit to do with it. I really can't believe some of the people on here.

You are pathetic.
I swear I never get so upset as when a "Gator" player has an altercation with a woman on here and people come out with the craziest excuses.
Do you people have a daughter or any self-respect. There is always a share of blame to go around, and I don't think in some circumstances that a woman is completely without blame, but there is no reason to strike a woman in the face, especially over a cell phone. He plays in the effin NFL, he should be able to take a hit.
Personally I think he is a POS coward pu$$y and all those defending it with their snide comments of double standard are as well.
