Many don't probably have a plan set in stone. They just know they don't like where they've been. I can see their point, that if they know they are going to make a change, cut the ties and start looking. I think most teams probably have a list of potential candidates. Also, they know a lot of coaches are going to be available on black Monday, so their pool will be bigger. The sooner the old coach is gone, the better.

Perfect time to leave. He's not going to have a better year.

Actually that's not true at all. Saban improved the dolphins. He just wanted full control and they wouldn't give it.

Does anyone not think this will end like these things always do?
With ND digging a little bit deeper into those very deep pockets.

Doesn't negate anything I said. A lot of people were thinking Culpepper.

This is part of what I don't get about the NFL. They just recycle the same old coaches over and over again. Why fire your coach just to hire someone that another team also thought merited firing?

Kelly denied having any interest in an NFL coaching job this past Saturday, claiming that leaving Notre Dame "is not an option. I don't even think about it."
Geesh, he lies as well as Saban.

Yeah I guess lying to some is really easy these days.

The team basically stayed the same under Saban though.
I do think had he waited it out he would have won in Miami.
?..but as a Dolphins fan...It just helps me root against him more.

I'm not in agreement here. I don't think he was there long enough to do much and the players he added didn't amount to much, save Ronnie Brown (who had a few good years). He did have as much control as you could expect as Randy Mueller was a figurehead GM. Huizenga never said no to anything that Nick wanted. His strategy to build a winning NFL team by over relying on SEC players did not work. He was hamstrung by a poor salary cap situation, which you can't fix in two years.
He was far from the worst coach Miami has had since 1996 though and it's possible that he would have made them better if he had stuck with it.
However, as big fat Tuna says, you are what you're record says you are. 6-10 his last year and 1-15 right after he left speaks volumes.

Ill agree that he wasn't there long enough to make a huge assessment but I believe the demeanor and physicality of the team improved.

So he went 9-7, 6-10 so the jury was still out although I thought the team was definitely improving under his watch. However, I don't see how he takes the fall for the following 1-15 season when neither of his seasons went like that.

Jason Taylor had two of the best years of his career with Saban, I'll give you that.
Wannstadt and Spielman left Miami in a mess though. I guess Saban didn't have the patience to work through it.
However, Terry told me one year at Thanksgiving that she hated living in South Florida. That might have been the proverbial straw when Mal Moore starting ringing Nick's phone off the hook.

There is no rationale for this. Belichick lost to Saban 2x. In fact, during their four games, the Saban Dolphins outscored the Patriots. And yet, Belichick seems to have done just fine.

I bet if Kelly left, ND would make a run at urban. I would love it if he bolted. Imagine how devastated the suckeye fans would be. Something or someone having ties to UF would have once again crushed their souls.
