That incident was more about the stupidity of a mother and nothing about gun control. They have some of the toughest gun control in the country. This is an example of you getting in over you head on a topic you don't know much about.
Exactly.

Notice that people typically sidestep the instances of violent crime that doesn't involve a gun in all these disarmed population countries. "Dans l'enfer des Tournantes" was not written about life in neighborhoods where anyone or their neighbors had any but the remotest likelihood of being armed, for instance.
Yet, if similar hypotheticals are any indication, the gun control true believers would not, If they could stop time and arm a victim of "les tournantes", do so.
Recent Supreme Court decisions disagree with this view.
It s their job to make sense of and apply the Constitution, but when it is not clear - and it isn't on this issue, nor were the authors of it - their decisions can and will be 2nd guessed and possibly overturned by courts in the future. I am not claiming an obvious and clear meaning to the 2nd amendment and anyone who speaks English and is honest would agree there is none. Also, anyone who reads the history of militias both in England and here and of the writing of the Bill of Rights would see also the multifold arguments - many of them now archaic - surrounding the issue. The confusing language reflects that debate then and creates the one now.
We have an administration which flouts the Constitution and the law at its whim. It wants very much to rule by executive fiat and ignore the people's representatives. In so doing it also ignores the people. Any suggestion that we should implicitly trust any administration which acts in this manner is beyond silly. Trust them if you wish. They have demonstrated that they cannot be trusted.
Honestly, I don't know if history has greater political horror and/or than that contemporary statists arguing that we have evolved past the need/utility for much of the Constitution, particularly the second amendment, are the very eventuality much of the Constitution was meant to guard against, particularly the second amendment.
What they are going to do is what they feel is politically expedient. The mental health issue is a tough one to tackle and will take time. They want to show that they are doing something immediately.
So you would support increased funding for mental health services nationwide?
Tell that to the parents of Sandy Hook & Aurora....
Tell that to parents that are homeless and out of a job that can't provide for their kids

how about a $100 tax on every gun shipped from the manufacturer, paid by the manufacturer.
and a $500 dollar tax on imported guns
on the low end thats a half a billion a year to fund mental health services, create that database the NRA suggests and provide additional mental health support to all those weapon handy PTSD sufferers weve taught so well over the past decade.
Not sure who you're talking about but clearly you are a drama queen of epic proportions. "Great(est) political horror"? You need to get out more or maybe just read a history book.
Squandering our heritage as a free people is pretty darn horrible.

And, one can indeed learn that from books - if one cares to read them - or experience it in the real world, if one cares to get out in it.
It is happening.

Indeed that would be, if anybody on TH had done that but still other worse political horrors have been both advocated and achieved within the lifetimes of some of us.

That depends upon the value one places on liberty.
