The Florida fanbase seems to be a bit more fickle than Alabama's. Many of the Florida alumni are moving away from the Southeast and supporting the program less. Can Will Muschamp overcome these factors? We shall see.
Honestly, I could coach Alabama and have those things on my side. Meyer was as political as they come and he couldn't get past them. Spurrier wasn't as political, but he was deified as much as any SEC coach not named after an animal and he still couldn't overcome them.

I have a feeling Jerry Jones is going to offer Saban $8 mill a year and full control of personnel decisions to come coach the Cowboys. Dunno if he'll take it though. Ryan being fired seems like the first move necessary.

Additionally, in his first real recruiting class, Muschamp got a number of highly talented defensive recruits--many of whom were able to play right away (Morrison, Fowler, and Bullard are the obvious ones). Taken together, you can't argue that Muschamp is lacking in the player development department...at least when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.

As for the offensive side of the ball--Muschamp has pretty clearly given wide deference to the OC...hiring experienced coaches in the two seasons he's been here. Weis was a nice temporary splash and most of us applauded the move at the time--but in fairness to Muschamp, Weis never been good at developing talent at the college level and we did need to act quickly.
Completely agree with all of this. On the defensive side of the ball I see the complete package. The ability to attract the top recruits (Fowler, Bullard, VHIII), scout talent (Morrison), get freshman making an impact on the field early (all of the above), and develop players to get the most out of them (McCray, Evans, Purifoy, etc), as well as game-planning/scheme/making in-game adjustments.

Also agree that in 2011 he basically just handed the offense over to Weis. Last year we only signed 7 offensive players with a unit that was desperate for new talent, and infamously whiffed on all of the big name WRs, which could be attributed to the OC change, but again that Weis mistake is on WM. But this year was completely the opposite. We brought in a great OC (IMO), WR and RB recruiting is off the charts and we are completely reloading at OL.

Anyone remember that story about WM forcing Pease to retain the old Weis offense terminology to simplify it for the players? I wonder how that ended up working out.

People are still trying to blame Weis? There was no talent on offense period. The team still would have been fine if Brantley had not got hurt.

The whole "retaining the old offense" thing was the most misunderstood point I've ever heard. Muschamp said point blank that one of the reasons he hired Pease was because of the multiple personnel packages and pre-snap alignment changes the new coordinator would bring. How could that possibly be the case if he was expected to retain the old offense, which did not have those multiple packages and pre-snap alignment changes?

Simple: he was retaining the verbiage, then adapting it to his system, not the entire offensive system. That's what Muschamp meant and I have no clue how it turned into Pease retaining the entire system.

Excellent point about this being WM second year as hc while ns has had numerous years to learn and improve. Agree, with more experience wm will continue to improve with player development.
I think his biggest challenge for wm is getting the players to play hard vs soft teams as they do for tougher teams along with playing with more discipline. Perhaps with experience this will become easier to do.
