while i think she is hot, i do agree that ESPN doesn't need to be objectifying spectators of sporting events...since it was their host, and producers, I can understand the apology
it would have one thing if they showed her once but it was multiple times after Brent and Herbi had a thing or 2 to say about her looks

Wow do really we need to count know how many times they show a hot chick in the stands? Will this be in legislations or perhaps an executive order?

Maybe you guys have missed something.

When Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, they would not show his hips on TV.
Now, Victoria Secret models have a chance to appear on TV wearing not too much. Is the idea that husbands will watch and ask their wives to buy the goods? Viagra ("call the doctor immediately if you experience an erection that lasts more than four hours") is advertised incessantly on TV. I'm glad I no longer have a 13 year old watching and asking questions.
The fact is that sex is a major component of almost all advertising on TV, in magazines, etc.
Suddenly people are offended by a remark that is tame??

Following the the now famous Musburger slobbering over Ms Alabama incident on Monday, ESPN apologized for his actions. I found this to be stupid. First of all, Musburger didn't say anything inappropriate, he paid compliments to the beautiful lady. Secondly, why is it OK for ESPN cameras to constantly zoom into these women all the time. What are the announcers supposed to say every time cameras zoom onto the bodies and faces of these attractive women? Should ESPN also apologize for the way the cameramen and producers' behaviour as well? After all, they are the perverts who think its important to focus on these women.
Finally, even Katherine Webb and her parents didn't see anything wrong with what Musburger said.

Perverts???
Come on...they are camera men. We--that is, people--and by people, I mean folks with blood still running through our veins--like to look at pretty people. That's what fuels television, movies, magazine sales, cigarette sales, beer sales, etc, etc....
...in fact, that's what fuels our species.
The only thing remotely objectionable about any of this, is that some buffoon some damn where figured an apology was in order, and there must have been nothing but idiots between that buffoon's decision, and its issuance.
No one with a hint of common sense to stop ESPN from embarrasing itself.

If ask me this was the first time Musburger has showed any signs of being mentally aware of his surroundings.

As far as I know we've only got 3 or 4 regular female posters here but I'm interested to hear their take on this.
I don't think there's anything even a little bit wrong with what Musburger said. The girl is world-class supermodel-quality smokin hot, and that's a fact. Plus she was Miss Alabama and has chosen to do bikini modeling and date the high-profile QB of America's #1 NCAA team, so she clearly invites attention. Musburger simply complimented her and said nothing inappropriate...or so she herself said, on the Today show.
If the object of Musburger's comments was not the least bit offended - to the contrary, in fact - then who the hell is anyone else to take offense? I don't get that.

I would have been fired before the end of the game for my comments.

Its Notre dames fault for giving the announcers nothing to talk about for 3 hours.

ESPN will act on gender issues or racial issues, but they gave the fat religious bigot chick, her own show...

However, I still remember the almost endless reminders that "AJ Hawk is dating Brady Quinns sister" from TV announcers several years ago. In general, I do think there is some "preference" for whiteness when it comes to TV stories and coverage of attractive young women - see Natalie Holloway.

Yes we should have an affirmative action law passed that mandates an equal amount of women shown from each race and don't forget the orientals and native americans as they are also importain. And if you show a white cheerleader you must also show a black one. If you have a story on a black FB player you must show one on a white player in the name of fairness. And to be even more fair every team should have to play some white guys umm ok.

Teddy Bridgewater's gf was only mentioned because she was standing next to Teddy's mom who was the main story. Apparently she is HIV positive, and the announcers kept talking about how if Teddy goes to the NFL he can buy her drugs she needs for the condition. Now, that was tasteless: divulging that kind of info on national TV.
