the ESPN spin, and the truth
Leading up to the BCS the pundits and spinners on ESPN were quick to point out this was a "down year" for the sec, and in doing so was artificially inflating a mediocre Notre Dame team.
Then, last night was some revelation. Alabama was a world beater. True Alabama curb stomped a weak, small team from the north, but fact o the matter was:
No this was not a down year for the SEC and Alabama was just one of a handful in the top tier of the SEC. Arguably, and a good argument is made, that Texas a&m is the best team in the country. Georgia and LSU gave bama all they wanted and then some. Bottom line, this was a very strong year for the SEC. Five teams would have demolished Notre dame yesterday.
That said bama is class and did what they had to. I would just hope for a little more common sense from ESPN/abc and acknowledge that bama beat a very average team.

Blame UF and Les Miles for that. At the end of the day #SEC7 is what matters though. That is what will give the conference the benefit of the doubt. And lets not forget the conference did go 6-3, not too bad. It was just highlighted, prior to last night, by the gags by UF and Miles

If LSU and FLorida don't embarrass themselves, you could argue that was the SEC's best and most dominant year...and our best and hottest team at the end of the year did not even play in the title game.

I just hope that 7 years in a row is enough for people to start to realize that none of those undefeated teams any year could play an SEC schedule and make it through without a 1-5 losses.

I wouldn't put LSU's loss in the same class as ours in terms of effect on conference perception. Clemson was supposed to be a very good team (ranked #11 I believe before the bowl game). Louisville was ranked like #22 IIRC. And we were ranked higher than LSU. But most importantly, LSU played Clemson a whole lot better than we played Louisville. Take away Miles' bonehead play calling on LSU's last possession and they win the game. Take away a couple play calls by us and it makes not the slightest difference, we still get trounced badly.

Neither UF or LSU looked very interested in playing their bowl games. I think we had the case of kids looking forward to going pro more then anything else. Oh and another sterling performance by our oline.

Lville, Clemson and NW played their best games of the season to beat the SEC. My only issue with the final rankings is that UF should NOT be behind SC and especially fsu. I am okay with being behind A&M, because we couldn't beat them again.

Even if an SEC champ has two losses they earn a seat at the table. urbs team from up yonder would have been run out of Miami last night.
Look nobody prepares a team like Saban, however it is time for Cowherd, Palmer, fowler, musberger, etc come out and say, you know what. Texas a and m, or Georgia or LSU etc would have done the same thing last night
Thank goodness a playoff is coming but even that will suck because unqualified teams from other conferences will be in it
I'm sick of these made for tv matchups, no reason Notre dame should have been in that game last night

LSU didn't look interested? Did you watch the game? That was as hard hitting a game as I've seen in a while. Towards the end it seemed like an LSU player was being carted off the field after almost every play. IMHO LSU didn't lose because of a lack of interest, they lost because of their coach's bonehead play-calling on their last possession. We got beat every way it's possible to get beaten.

This year, Bama only lost to an SEC team. Last year, Bama and LSU only lost to SEC teams... Get the pattern.
Hanging onto a ranked Northwestern team beating an unranked Miss State team, isn't much to hang a hat on. LSU blew it to Clemson but they lost just the same. We lost also to a team that was hungry while we were fat.
The other 6 SEC teams in bowl games won. Got a feeling those six won't get much talk as the focus will be on the three that lost.

To the OP, telling everyone that BAMA is awesome and ND sucks so don't bother watching doesn't bode well for ratings. If you tell enough dumb people that it is going to be good game, they will believe it.

Hard hitting has nothing to do with it....even we were out there hitting hard check Bostic pic thread...these guys that are already nfl bound are trying not to get hurt and also show scouts something, hence the hard hitting. Not interested is more about the game it's self. No interest in winning or loosing ...what that means is less preparation to actual game plan mentally and not caring when it's shown the other team is here to play...so these players in question take plays off during game but still have some good plays here in there just not consistent ...also with lack of mental prep there not prepared for opposing teams tendencies and there fore less likely to stop them regardless of physical ability

It was a down year in the SEC, but that doesn't change the fact that ND is nowhere close to SEC Championship caliber.
Love the picture btw.

So if they believe this was a down year for the league, what does that say about Notre Dame?
