Rumor: Alabama to declare for NFL today
The University of Alabama football program will be making their intentions clear about moving up to the next level today. Sources confirm that they will be replacing Jacksonville in the AFC South (no word yet on what will happen to the Jaguars). The SEC has no official comment, but they have allegedly asked Alabama to hold off on the press conference until a suitable replacement can be named.
An Alabama official, speaking on condition of anonymity, has expressed, "we have accomplished all we can at this level and we are ready for greater challenges."

In related news, all of the players will be receiving pay cuts due to salary caps at the next level.

Yesterday one of the ESPN talking heads made a comment asking why would Saban want go to an NFL team where he would have one first round draft choice every year when he is currently coaching four of five at 'Bama (and implicitly will continue to do so).

Belichick has the same restrictions drafting as every other NFL team. He's doing this with a seventh round pick at QB.
The argument that you can't win in the NFL unless you get only the greatest players, like Alabama does in college, is debunked every year in the NFL.
If Saban's process is as good as he thinks, it should work in the NFL like NE.

In a related story, Kirby Smart announced on Twitter that he is looking forward to turning down any and all head coaching offers from other NFL teams.

Saban is a Belichik guy. So who knows what he could do with the right team.
Jimmy Johnson couldn't win with the Fins either. NO one has since Shula.

NFL files for injunction against Alabama joining the league. Citing concerns for player health and embarrassment, the players union joins the effort to preserve the system where players can take off for certain games and play half-heartedly so that they can maintain a full season. On anonymous player said "If we played on paper, we would win every game. But, you gotta rest here and there; it's a long season. Saban coming in here with their process stuff and players buying into it would put pressure on the rest of us. We don't need that."
Owners apparently were arguing about a dramatic drop in revenue for their team colors as the Crimson Tide faithful would rival the Tebow Jersey issue from a couple of years ago. One owner representative described it this way: "Our revenue streams, our traditions, and our ability to brand traditional NFL merchandise must be preserved. We cannot tolerate the passionate fan base of one team overshadowing the others. We have to respect what has been established."
Another expressed concerns over changing the game. "Alabama coming to the NFL would bring passion and excitement that would be unprofessional. Celebrations by fans and the pageantry of fans would overshadow what we have built; a professional, sober-minded, all business franchises and brand that does not need emotions and antics of the dominant SEC type people to be successful."
