IF Driskel had the playmakers Tebow had we would be in the NC game

In 2007, the year you cite, I would disagree.
Our defense in 2007 was so inexperienced that it negated a lot of what Tebow did.
This season, the defense carried Driskel and an offense that was deficient, to be kind.
In what year do you predict that Jeff will win a Heisman or even reach All American status?
It's not fair to Jeff that he is compared to one of the greatest college football player of his generation, but that's the overhyped world we live in.

24-10 at the half still in it.
How did Driskel do? Great? No. Good? No, but not MUCH MUCH MUCH worse than Golson.
First Half Stats for Driskel
7/12 Passing 87 yards - one pic 6
5 rushes for 34 yards and his team trailed 24-10 as opposed to 28-0.
Golson 1st half when it was a game
7/15 Passing 93 yards one fourth down incompletion
2 rushes for 7 yards
Scoring Drives = 0

If we took our current team, but switched Tebow and Driskel, I think we'd be in the title game. I mean, are you really trying to argue Driskel is just as good as Tebow at this point in their respective career?

Golson usually just throws a blimp up in the air and hopes one of his tall receivers retrieves it. He is absolutely not better than Jeff Driskel. Golson wouldn't make it in Arena Football because he'd keep hitting the scoreboard suspended from the ceiling.

no I am not I am saying they play under different circumstances. Just like I doubt you argue if you give Driskel Tebows weapons Florida is in the NC game
[edit]
and actually I dont know if Florida beats Georgia with Tebow as the QB in the system we have now

The bottom line for me.
I'm glad we've got Driskel and that ND has Golson. Was not all that impressed with the Irish QB in the BCS CG. I think Jeff will improve in his JR year next Fall...

The 2007 D was nowhere near as good as this year's D. However, the offense was MUCH better.
1 & 2. OL - Pouncey Twins, Phil Trautwein and Jim Tartt anybody remember those studs?
3. WR Andre Caldwell; Percy Harvin & L. Murphy
4. Kickoff and punt returner Brandon James
5. TE Ingram and A. Hernandez
6. 3rd year with same OC - Dan Mullen
7-20. Tim Tebow the greatest college player in last 15 years
This offense is NOWHERE near that offense. However, there is no way to put Driskel in the same category as Tebow. Just not enough to go on yet. Tebow was a different person top to bottom - just HATED to lose anything and vocally and visually challenged his team to be better.

I believe he will as well, along with his teammates on the OL and WR.
I don't like unfair comparisons to past players that have the effect of overwhelming people who didn't ask for them.

Tebow is one of the greatest college football players of the last 30 years, since Herschel Walker.
It's just unfair to compare a kid who has the same height/weight to Tebow and say that he will be as good if not better.

Agreed tommyuf
20 years from now we will still be talking about how great Tebow was. One of the all time best Gators ever. No one should have to play against current defenses and the past standard of Tebow.

Indictment of the system not the player, interestingly enough Jeff is also probably more effective in our previous system (or in Gholston's) but hey round pegs in square holes was fun when we tried to make Brantley run the spread option and its fun now.

I don't really get why Driskel seemingly never steps up into the pocket. Is there a reason for that? That would give him an extra second-ish on some plays. I noticed in the Sugar Bowl, it seemed like our rush was about to get to Bridgewater, but he would step up into the pocket, buying himself a little more time to get the pass off.

I have asked this question before...no good answers. Gotta be coaching.

He's not a natural pocket passer, we knew he was an immensely talented but extremely raw prospect (especially if we insist in handcuffing him in our current system) and unfortunately we couldn't afford to redshirt him and let him sit and learn a bit.

Very interesting post. Lots of different opinions, but one common thread amongst them all: Driskell is not where he needs to be to get us to the top of the mountain. So...... the question is: does he have the skill sets and can Pease teach him to make better reads, stop staring down his primary receivers, and deliver the football on time? That is a lot to learn in 8 months' time, my friends. Either way, we need to recruit a good backup quickly, because Driskell will get hurt the more he runs the football. BTW, I don't see any highly ranked OL's coming in this year, so I doubt that our OL will get that much better in one year. Bottom line: I think we should expect some improvement on offense next year, but the learning curve is still pretty steep. Anyone that does not see that needs to get a dose of reality.

Bama's O looked very similar to what they ran last year under a different OC.
I was under the impression that Coach Muschamp did not change the O or the terminology when he hired Pease to replace Weis.
Driskel needs to make a big improvement this spring. I am hopeful he can do it.

nope, though our offense did look better. Do any of you really think our qb play will markably improve nect year?? And if it doesn't, do we really have a chance for a NC??
LMAO. The same morons who were predicting a 6-loss this season are right back at it again. Get a life dweeb.
