Myth.
They had time for two plays if he spikes it...and two plays if he doesn't. Either way they had two shots. Problem is on the first of two plays...guy fell down at the 5.

The problem for Florida is that every SEC team recruits against us.... Because they come from here (mostly).

I would've rooted for UGA over Notre Dame.
SEC bragging rights are more meaningful when we can say our conference wins it every year AND it's not always the same school.
Earlier in the season when SC was looking real good I was hoping that if we didn't win the SEC East it would be the Gamecocks. Obviously my preference would always be for UF to win the SEC Championship and then go on to play for the BCS title, but if not us I would like to see it go to another SEC East team for a change. Preferably SC but yes, even UGA.
As far as recruiting goes, I'm of the opinion that a rising SEC tide lifts all SEC boats. And the more it is seen as an SEC tide instead of just a Crimson Tide, the better it is for us.

They were going over this today and I think you're statement is incorrect. I forget the actual figures, but the vast majority were from Alabama. Next was Georgia, where they got quite a few and then 11 (I remembered that) from Florida, few from Texas and Ohio, etc.
If anything (America First?), UGa is the school most negatively impacted by Alabama's success.

It was really a no-win situation
This latest NC does make it a Bama thing more than an SEC thing
Watching UGA win an NC would also suck
I'm not so sure it's a lock UGA beats ND. There a great team but definitely capable of screwing it up

Actually, they opted not to spike the ball twice. Had they done so, they could have saved about 20 seconds.

I'm not talking about meat & potato/ham & eggers kind of guys, I'm talking about the Trent Richardsons, the Amari Coopers and the Derrick Henrys.. The super good players that they poach from our state every year.

Imagine how good Florida would be if they didn't have in state competition for Florida players from FSU or UM. They would be the greatest college team ever assembled. Bama has only Auburn in state to compete with and obviously they are crushing them there and they still have to cherry pick from Georgia and Florida to assemble these teams. Georgia doesn't really have an in state school to compete with...I guess Georgia Tech but they are not much of a threat. LSU also has nobody in state to give them recruiting competition. Everyone in the SEC has an in-state recruiting advantage over UF as no other SEC team has two legitimate teams in-state that can pull top players from them.

Given our success on the field, I would not say that other schools have an advantage. I think state population evens it out quite a bit for us. There are just a TON of football players in Florida. It's a main reason this is such a great job for coaches. You have a lot of players to choose from. So much so that it can supply us, FSU, UM, et al. And the rest of the nation.
I see what you are saying, but the last thing a UF coach has to worry about is finding good players.
LSU is the one who is kind of surprising to me. Having a complete monopoly on a state that loves its football so much and has a HIGH level of high school football, you would think that they would have had more overall success. It's a complete mystery to me.

Freak,
I understand what you are saying; however, the state population is really not an advantage for us because those "other" top notch players that don't go to UF, FSU or Miami do end up with the mutts, bammers, etc.
Once those other states top players are secured, there is not too much left over for anyone else to scoop up.
It's also skewed because of all the people that move into Florida from other states.
Many come into Florida with already built-in allegiances to other schools and teams.

Hmm? Truthfully, it's probably somewhere in the middle of both of our points really. For me the bottom line is, we do quite well because we are in the state of Florida. And the reason we do quite well is because we have such a large recruiting base right here at home. In other words, you don't have to own this state to be a top football power.

I wouldn't trade Florida's advantages for any other school really.
USC and Texas are the only schools that are probably easier to recruit at, and I trust Florida HS football more than California or Texas.
There is a reason that the Big 3 in Florida have won like 1/3rd of the last 25 or so championships.
