Jelani can't be more than a semester or two from graduating. He was a four year guy (Redshirt Junior) and a good student.

I'm not suprised. He was a 4.0 student in high school, from what I understand to be true.

We'll no one can say for sure, but don't you think we would be in much better shape next year if Floyd, Elam, Reed and Jenkins all returned?
I'm mean we aren't just losing players, we are losing our BEST players on both sides of the ball.
If you look back to all of our NC teams, they all had their had their best players coming back for that year. I think if everyone came back, we would be a legit contender next year. Now, not so much.

Jenkins isn't ready. Someone just gave this kid bad advice, and that is not right...

Pretty clear the risk of being injured further and not being able to play at all is on his mind. He's not going to improve his stock tremendously without putting lots of miles on his body and he and his family probably evaluated the risks of coming out now. They of course came up with a 3 page matrix of how to choose colleges based on many factors, so I would trust they've thought this decision out as well.

We would be, but you're talking about a perfect world where everyone thinks only of others and sacrifices their future to please others.
I think we would have been better in 2007, maybe even repeated, if Moss, Reggie Nelson and Siler returned for their senior years. They left too. Or in 2009, if Percy had returned. That might have been the difference in our offensive output.
This is life in the big time. If you want quality, you have to expect that you're going to lose people.
The only answer is to consistently recruit great talent that can step into these inevitable holes that are going to happen.

If he's still around in the 4th, Miami should take him. Misi absolutely sucks in coverage and Burnett isn't going to be around forever. Miami might be able to coverage a tight end with a pulse with Jenkins back there.

Certainly. And 2007 was a major rebuilding year for the defense. 2009 the offense went downhill without Percy. Both may have cost us a championship.
While I do expect to lose quality players, I also expect production at those positions to go down as a result of those loses. I also expect production to go up at positions where we have the players coming back. But on defense, our loses (DT, LB, S) outweigh our gains (DE, CB), so I think its reasonable to expect the defense to take a step backward this year.
If you lose people after a championship season like in 2007 and 2009, its much easier to tolerate.

That's just how it goes. The third-stringers don't leave early for the NFL.
It would be nice if some of these guys had more love for the school and a bigger desire to stay in college and help the team win championships. But that's unrealistic in most cases. I can't criticize any young man who's had no money all his life wanting to finally have some, especially if he's being told that he's unlikely to improve his draft position by playing another year.

Totally agree. Same with Reed. Elam and Floyd were ready, but Jankins wasn't.

Why do you all keep saying this crap? How many people have to say he's one of the top 5-7 LB prospects in the draft for you to get it into your heads that Jenkins had nothing to gain from coming back to school? Will backers do not get drafted in the first round. In a passing league, a linebacker with Jelani's speed and coverage instincts is very valuable.
HE DID NOT MAKE ANY SORT OF MISTAKE.

I think Jelani has a good chance at making a roster, and being drafted pretty high, compared to the draft last yr, and what the talking head were spouting about Lavonte David who the buc's picked up in the second round. I think Jelani has those same skills, he is great in coverage, and great speed, decent size, and can hit. I don't blame the kid, his parents are both doctors, he has his degree, and is probably gun shy about being injured again, he see's his teammate's easley, powell and others get hurt on incidental contact really, and wants to take himself out of the equation. Hope nothing but the best for the guy. Great Gator, and great representative of the University.
