Think Jenkins is making a big mistake....and am surprised (not sure what the kid is thinking). Think it hurts him more than us. We were fine without him part of this year and think our younger LBs have huge upside. I'm fine with moving on with the youth movement.
As for Reed, read on a Gatorsports tweet (by Andreu, I think) that him leaving was no surprise, as the guy hated school. That's why I really wish there was a minor league for football. Too many guys playing football in college that have no desire to be there and have no business being there (academically). But I digress.

I hope he's getting good advice.

Unfortunately there's no way to know whether he'd remain healthy for a full season if he stayed. And if he had another injury that might cause him to drop further.
I have no trouble with any player leaving who can reasonably expect to be drafted and who will never be a 1st round pick no matter how long they're here. First round money is huge relative to later rounds, even the 2nd. So if a player has a reasonable shot at moving to 1st round by staying I think he should. But after that, not such a big deal. They'll make good money if they stick with a team regardless of their draft position.

we are really going to miss Jenkins just look at the Louisville game not having him killed us in pass coverage

Our defense had many more issues in that game than missing Jenkins. Still think the move hurts him more than us. We'll be fine.

I was told he was def going after the game when we were at the team hotel. Someone nailed it earlier, when you have been bitten by the injury bug you start getting a little nervous about what if's. Strike while the iron is hot or atleast still warm...
Good luck to Jelani!

The last time we had a guy truly surprise me by staying was Spikes in 2009. Tebow also stayed, but I always assumed he would do that.

How about Janoris? He was best or second best corner out there. Him staying was pretty surprising

I agree...JJ's best attribute was in coverage. It allowed us to cover the slot better and he was still better than average on the run. We did miss him in the bowl game...what did surprise me is how Watkins and Purifoy struggled against Louisville's receivers. It was obvious to me they game planned to go after those two and stayed away from Roberson. Everyone keeps saying Purifoy is our best cover corner but I think it is Roberson and the other teams must agree as Purifoy has given up more big plays...don't forget he got beat on the UGA game winning touchdown and missed the tackle as well.

I thought about Janoris and probably should have mentioned him. But he also underwent major shoulder surgery after the season and wouldn't have been able to participate in any of the pre-draft workouts.
Still, if you want to call that decision a surprise I won't argue too much.

Jenkins and his family know what they're doing and Jelani himself has an idea how he'll do at the combine. He ran under 4.5 in high school and had close to 40" VJ. He should do very well.
Remember that this isn't early for him. This is his fourth year at UF. He spent his entire first year rehabbing. I know he missed a lot of time this season, but he was very active and aggressive when he was on the field. This hurts us more than it hurts him.

Let me be perfectly clear since what I said was stupid, I don't think Jenkins or Reed are good enough for the NFL at this time. I will be highly surprised if either make an NFL roster no matter the numbers at their positions at the next level. Both should have stayed for their senior seasons.
I'm glad to read Easley told the coaches he's staying. I hope he concentrates on the position he wants at the next level and comes out a highly coveted and paid 1st rounder in 14.
Jelani and Jordan, good luck with your futures. I do hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

I don't know about Jenkins, but Reed is projected for 3rd to late 4th round, no?

It's clear that what you said is still stupid. And many GM's, well pretty much all of them, will disagree during the draft.
Gotta ask. You seem to be really confident in your stance? Why? Are you a big NFL fan. Have you studied the draft and analyzed available TE's and OLBs compared to the demand? Do you know the needs of all 30 some odd NFL teams come April? Just curious, because basically every mock draft disagrees with you..

Ugh... that really sucks.
We lost underclassmen starters on all 3 levels of the defense, combined with losing senior starters on all 3 levels of the defense as well. That's just a major, major hit.

For those of you finding it inconceivable that Jenkins goes by the 3rd round.......
Jenkins Declares for Draft

It would be premature to compare Jenkins to the Philadelphia Eagles' Mychal Kendricks (5-11, 239), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Lavonte David (6-1, 233) or the Pittsburgh Steelers' Sean Spence (5-11, 231) at this time but the same kind of playmaking ability that led to these linebackers earning the No. 46, 58 and 86 overall picks, respectively is evident in Jenkins' game.

I don't have to analyze the NFL to see Jenkins and Reed aren't NFL material. Any fool can see it in UF's games.

So how many losses does this cost us next year?
If Demps and Rainey were allowed a hypothetical extra year, would that have put us in tonight's game?
I don't see where our early departures or seniors completing their elgibility will affect us next year any worse than any average year.
