Jelani Jenkins to the NFL
Looks like we have another spot in the class to fill.

The ole double edged sword...
It's bad cause we love having upper classmen for leadership and talent
It's good because we have more room for new recruits in areas of need, and get to point to our success at placing guys in the NFL as a recruiting tool.

I might as well declare too. We'll probably get drafted on the same day.

With his injuries this season, I am surprised he elected to try the draft
instead of playing his senior year in college. Maybe thats why I am not a scout.

I was hoping Jelani would stay, he has got good cover skills, and we could have used him alot next yr, I think we missed him a lot during the bowl game against Louisville because of this. Hope he has a great career, and was a great gator.

It just popped up as I typed. That really is shocking to me - I thought he'd play one more year.

This one really surprises me. I understand Reed's decision, even if I think he could improve his position tremendously by returning. But how high does Jelani think he's going to get drafted coming off what was essentially half a junior season?
This is odd. Jelani's always been very smart, and I assume he'll be graduating soon, if he hasn't already. So I know this isn't a decision made lightly. But I don't understand what he's seeing here.

Out of everyone that declared this year I think Jelani is the only one making a huge mistake. Barely played this year, can't imagine he is going to go in the first 3 rounds

Yep I thought he would stay for sure, but I guess it's just Easley that is going to stay, maybe

Also, at some point I want to look at the rate of our NFL defections as compared to other big-time programs. It certainly seems like we lose more of our "borderline" juniors than other programs, that we get fewer pleasant surprises.
The last time we had a guy truly surprise me by staying was Spikes in 2009. Tebow also stayed, but I always assumed he would do that.

If our offense dont turn it around next year, we will struggle a lot because our defense will not be as good.

This is a very big loss. A healthy Jenkins would have been huge for us next year. I think he realizes that his body has a finite amount of hits it can take and give and wants to maximize the amount of NFL earning potential. It's a risky plunge for him.

I think he goes too. He's got a child and has already had an ACL injury. Why stick around and risk his financial future in the event if another knee injury.

What was the injury that held him out of the Sugar Bowl? Will he be ready for the combine in a month or so? I am surprised by this one - I can't imagine he's going to go all that high with such a limited season this past year.

Actually, I think injuries drive guys to the pros. He has broken his hand and his foot this year.......why wait on something catastrophic to happen? He'll get a high draft grade right now.

Call me a Debbie Downer....,
But the events of the past week have totally turned around the outlook for the 2013 season.
