My youngest started college at Santa Fe this year with the intention of transferring to UF after his 2 year is done. He is a bigger Gator fan than I am, and I didn't think that was possible...LOL.
I'm a proud papa.

LOL .. Sweet
UF is getting tougher to enter.
The jr. college route is a good idea. Then transfer to UF for the remaining 2 - 3 years.

If your kid becomes a FSU fan no worries. There are plenty of opportunities for the mentally challenged in today's world.
He might invite a entire new way to slaughter cows humanely.

Eh, you could probably avoid all that if you show him the sign in front of the O'Dome that describes the invitation of Gatorade.

True story. About a year ago my sons were 2 and 4, respectively and they were arguing as my wife and I were going down the road. Well I tried to get the two to stop arguing and all of a sudden I heard my oldest son start bawling. I didn't realize what was said, so I went from aggravated to concern. I asked my oldest what happened. He said, "Connor called me a Seminole!" My wife and I had to explain to my two year old there there are things we don't say to other people no matter how mad we are, and that is definitely one of them!

I have two girls... 8 and 6. My little boy is 2. He can recognize the Gators on TV...(Dolphins too) He sits right beside me and jumps up and down with me...When you ask him what a Gator says, he does the chomp and says "Da-Dum-Da-Dum"...When you ask him what a Seminole says...he says "sptsptspt" (spitting proudly)....he sleeps with an Orange and Blue football and loves for me to "kackle" him as he runs across the living room floor. My eight year old daughter is all in for the Orange and Blue.... My six year old little girl is being influenced by her Nole papaw and aunt...I have some work to do there.
Problem is they were all born here in North Carolina. Chances of them being Gators for life seem slim.
...but I'll do my best!!!

This is an incredibly profound statement. Please elaborate.

Seems simple. As I understand it:
He purchased a fan for a cousin in Kentucky, but has yet to give the fan to said cousin and needs to be careful and avoid cutting himself on it in the meantime for fear of staining the fan with orange and blue blood. To remind himself to be careful, this is something that he frequently discusses and indeed is apparently making reference to at this very moment.

The operative word was "tried". Might be the most massive epic failire in the history of thread creation. You are the Hindenburg of thread creators, the titanic of posters, the Florida gators of ul/UF game, the Romni of Romni 2012, the last Indiana jones movie. What I'm saying here is FAILURE.
Well done.

I told both of my children that they could attend any school in the country they wanted to attend except FSU. And I meant it. It was an easy thing to say because neither of them expressed any desire to go there. But I really wouldn't have paid for a child to attend FSU.

Great stories, especially the chomp, the clowns and limey.
My first daughter was verbally accomplished at a very early age. She would accompany me regularly out and about on errands, stopping by the office, and she loved to go to basketball games.
So here is this sweet, cute harmless little three year old out with me when we would randomly run into a friend of mine of a different collegiate persuasion.
I would introduce my friend to her and say, "How bout them Dawgs"? ( or noles, etc)
She would respond in a loud voice, "Dawgs are Gatorbait!!"
She never missed a cue and it was great to watch the jaw drop

This was never a concern for me. One of the first words from my eldest daughter when she first started talking was Go Gators! And she continues to love the Gators to this day.

Well, that sounds great now, but as a dad with a 17 year old and 15 year old at home I can tell you that you should think twice about that. I have unfortunately, and unintentionally, ended up with one of my kids hating FSU and refusing to go to school there. She is a straight A student, with more than a 4.0 GPA due to honors classes, but that doesn't go very far in getting you into UF. Very few kids will get in there. And if you pressure your kids to have the grades and test scores and activities to get into UF then you might well create miserable adults--something you don't want.
So now my older daughter, despite my urging, steadfastly refuses to even consider FSU as a possible college choice. Won't even consider it. So now her fall back options are one of the other state schools, probably USF and a slight chance of UCF. Those don't provide the same big football school college town environment as FSU. Or, instead of the pre-paid college fund picking up all the tuition, I may be forking about $40k per year (that is $160k IF they finish in 4 years, and many kids won't as they try to find their major after getting to college. Just wait until it is time to start forking out the money it will really hit you. Think about that--$160k. Real money. Not fake money. The hard earned cash you have so desperately accumulated for hopeful retirement).
I'm sure wishing FSU was an option at this point. You can go there and still be a Gator fan. The academics at FSU are not what they are at UF, but they are equivalent to or better than USF and UCF (depending on your area of focus).
So take it from experience from someone who, 15 years ago, would have said the same think you are saying. This is an area where life experience brings some wisdom.
P.S. I've got two degrees from UF, a B.A. and a J.D., and am as die hard a Gator fan as you will find. I've also got many, many friends who could not get into UF, went to FSU, and they turned out quite alright in life. There are worse things than going to FSU for an education.

Yeah let's see how you feel when it is time to pay for college and help make decisions that are for the best of one of your kids.
Would your kids be better off at FSU than at UCF or USF?
