Was looking at an eagle nest last week in Sarasota on Philippi Creek. Also saw an eagle and osprey fighting for territory near my home in Orange County about two weeks ago.
Always inspiring to see them. Other places to see one is on Lake Jessup and on Eagle Loop near Eagle Lake Fl...

I'd picked up on the Eagles just a couple of days ago and have been watching regularly since. Man, THAT is impressive. They're incredible creatures. Now I'm excited about the manatees who are always fun. THANKS A BUNCH for the post. It keeps it interesting.
every time the weaker/younger of the two chicks gets a bite, the bigger chick takes a peck at the smaller one..smaller one not looking so good, not nearly as active as the other one and bigger one just keeps beating him down every time he lifts his head for a bite
i think we need a save the cougar club to promote the growth of the cougar (feline variety) population in the midwest so that everybody up there funding the save the manatee group has to drive slowly at night. nothing against manatees but the slow speed and ne zones are out of control in sw florida where we probably wouldn't even have a year round resident population if FPL didn't put in a hot water heater for them years ago.
One full-grown manatee can feed three families for two weeks, Bub continued. They weigh some 1,200 pounds and have seven cuts of meat, from the flipper (good ground into meatballs or burgers) to the tail, which is excellent for stewing.

I was tempted. My animal-rights half was outraged, but I had to respect the club's ballsy defiance of the law. And frankly, the meat didn't look that bad; fork tender but not fatty, just a touch of gristle. I took a poll -- it doesn't taste like chicken. Some club members likened it to tuna, others said it was closer to buffalo. One said it was like pork, with a hint of seafood. One guy asked if I'd ever had possum. When I said no, he told me the two were virtually indistinguishable.
nature is some cruel stuff, dominant chick is just killing smaller one, just grabbed it by the neck and shook it for 5 seconds when it tried to get some food....mom keeps feeding dominant one while it is doing its best to kill the other one

My big beef with the save the manatees BS is the way government uses it. If some politician wants boats to quit speeding past his property on the river, up goes a Manatee Zone sign where there hasn't been a manatee in years. Half the manatee zones in Florida should simply be no speed or no wake zones.
When the last manatee dies can we all drive our boats fast again?
E2 is fine. He gets most of his food when E1 is asleep after getting stuffed. There have been nests where the weaker eaglet survived when he was only getting 1/8 the food the stronger one was getting. The bonking will give way to mantling and stealing once they have their long feathers, and this is where E2 will learn to survive on his own.

I'm hoping Ozzie and Harriet will reinforce the rails on the side away from the road a little more. 3/4 of the sticks are on the other side of the nest. And these little scamps have climbed out of the nest bowl faster than I've ever seen before.
